Analyzing The Giver Focusing On Utopia
Imagine living in a world where you can`t choose your job, where at the age of twelve you are assigned an occupation by some group of elders. Imagine a world in which there is no pain, crime, famine, hunger and job shortage. In The Giver by Louis Lowry, this place exists every day and twelve-year-old boy Jonas lives in this seemingly ideal world. The community where Jonas lives was designed to be nearly flawless. No person could see color, feel neither hatred nor love. However, only one person knew about life as we know it society today for other peoples. It was “Jonas” who assigned to “Receiver” when he was 12

By telling his parents of his dream, Jonas has reported it, therefore treatment would take place. In the real world these feelings are just the start of a child growing up and becoming an adult. It is a natural thing that every child goes through. However, in Jonas’s community, the feelings that are developed as a child grows older are not approved. By extinguishing the feelings of sexuality through the pill, the society controls child’s feeling of sexuality and the whole society.
