Once upon a time, an old man lived high in the mountains.
옛날 어떤 한 늙은이가 산의 높은 곳에 살았다.

He had a garden, and he worked in it all day long.
그는 과수원을 갖고 있었고, 하루 온종일 그곳에서 일했다.
He loved his garden very much.
그는 자신의 과수원을 무척 사랑했다.
His three sons loved the garden, too, but they were lazy fellows.
그의 세 아들도 역시 과수원을 사랑했지만, 그들은 게으른 녀석들이었다.
They did not care for hard work.
그들은 힘들게 일하는 것을 좋아하지 않았다.

Digging, planting, and carrying water were very hard work.
파기, 기르기, 물 주기등과 같은 일은 매우 힘든 일이었다.

Still, each of the sons did do something now and then.

Their fruit and vegetables were always the freshest and the ripest.
그들의 과일과 채소들은 항상 가장 신선하고 탐스러웠다.
Their flowers were the most beautiful.
그들의 꽃은 가장 아름다웠다.
People from faraway mountain villages came to the market to buy the best fruits, vegetables, and flowers from them.
