Canadian School and Korean School: What is Similar and What is Different
A very thoughtful teacher is talking about English poems, and the students sitting around him are listening to him and asking good questions freely. They are now in a classroom, but sometimes they go to the playground or the woods or the museum together. This is the familiar image about Western schools I got from the movie, the Dead Poets’ Society. I was always attracted to Western schools, so when I went to Canada, I was really happy to experience a Canadian school and compare it with the Korean school where I work. As I expected, I found both similarities and differences in a curriculum, school events, and the way of teaching and learning.
First of all, schools in both countries not only keep the traditional role of teaching academics, but also try to provide more practical learning experiences such as vocational courses, study clinics, and the programs that help students improve art skills.
