I`ll talk about algorithm for automatic identification and description of the function, especially for participial forms and relatives of the subordination part continually. To grasp a point, I`ll give you pictures where we are. We`re learning about 16 major grammatical categories like this and this time we`re focusing on subordination features.

Subordination features have 4 subclasses; as you know complementation, participial forms, relative clauses and adverbial clauses, and the second and third part will be dealt with in this presentation.

Ok. Participial forms. Participles can function in many ways such as nouns, adjectives and verbs, also in the verbs, main verb, complement clauses, adjectival clauses and adverbial clauses. So they`re most difficult to analyze. Because of this reason, some studies often don`t distinguish one another, but it causes inaccuracy with all functions not being covered. So, here, participial forms are treated as a separate linguistic feature, because each grammatical function has different discourse function!
