한국어 초록

Among the writers in the 20th century, there are only few who explored human existence as persistently as Beckett did. The theme of human existence is better represented in Beckett’s novels than his dramas. The trilogy, Molloy, Malon Die and The Unnamable, vividly shows his view of the world and his unique style which enabled him to secure his position as a writer. Especially, in Molloy, Beckett permits his characters to have the status of an “I”. Even the characters as authors can’t control the objects of their stories. So, there exist various voices. This feature is related to “polyphony,” which Bakhtin introduced to describe his dialogic discourse. In this context, the purpose of this paper is to highlight the dialogic relationships in Molloy. To do this, this paper analyzes the structure, the language, the relationship between Molloy and Moran, the character as hero and author, and the carnivalesque feature based on Bakhtin’s dialogic discourse.
