This study aims to investigate the effective English listening teaching through schema activation in high school. For this purpose we revised the definition of schema, that is, general schema which includes formal(content) schema and functional schema which includes utterance speed, prosodic elements, collocation in addition to formal schema. A control group and an experimental group were selected in a high school. After 10 week classes, it revealed that the experimental group showed a significant increase in the academic achievement as well as in the affective domains. Based on the results of this study, we recommend that a new textbook which activates functional schema should be made and this approach should be applied to their English classes positively by high school teachers.
