성도와 직분자에 대한 루터와 칼빈의 견해 비교연구 (Comparative Study of Luther and Calvin’s Views on Saints and Officers)

초록

종교개혁은 오직 성경의 원리를 따라 복음을 믿는 참된 믿음의 가치와 성도의 부유함과 존엄성을 발견한 가운데 직분의 의미와 가치를 재발견했다. 그런데 오토 베버 등은 종교개혁과 개혁신학의 대표주자라 할 수 있는 마르틴 루터의 직분론과 존 칼빈의 직분론 사이에 큰 불연속성이 존재한다고 주장한다. 즉, 루터의 직분론에서는 만인제사장론(the doctrine of priesthood of all believers)이 중심이고 공적인 직분은 큰 중요성을 갖지 않는 반면 칼빈의 직분론에서는 공적 직분의 중요성이 크게 강조되고 있고 그의 교회론 자체가 직분론을 중심으로 한 교회론이라 할 수 있다는 것이다. 특히, 그들은 만인제사장론이 칼빈의 직분론에서는 거의 언급되지 않을 뿐 아니라 별 역할을 하지 않는다고 말한다. 이 주장에 반해서 루터의 직분론과 칼빈의 직분론 사이에 상당한 연속성이 존재하며 만인제사장론이 칼빈의 직분론에서도 중요한 역할을 한다는 시각이 있다. 이에 이 논문은 종교개혁과 개혁신학의 대표주자라 할 수 있는 루터와 칼빈의 직분론을 분석하고 비교해서 앞에서 언급한바 큰 불연속성을 주장하는 전자와 상당한 연속성을 하는 후자의 견해 중 어느 주장이 타당한지를 파악하고 이에 대한 근거와 이유를 제시하고자 한다.
이를 통해 이 연구는 루터의 직분론과 칼빈의 직분론이 상당한 연속성을 가지고 있으며 칼빈의 직분관이 만인제사장론을 포함한 루터의 직분관을 계승 발전시키는 성격을 지니고 있음을 보여줄 것이다. 그 가운데 칼빈의 직분론이 루터의 직분론과 구별되는 몇 가지 점도 보여줄 것이다. 이 논문은 또한 루터와 칼빈의 직분론이 오늘날 한국 장로교에 던져 주는 종교개혁과 개혁신학의 정신, 즉 ‘공적 직분자와 성도 사이엔 계급적 위계가 없어야 하며 수평적이고 형제애적인 관계 가운데 역할과 은사에 따른 질서가 있어야 한다; 이에 공적 직분자는 청지기적 봉사의 자세로 섬기고 성도는 존경과 협력의 자세로 교회건설에 동참해야 한다’와 같은 적용점들을 제시할 것이다.

영어초록

The Reformation rediscovered the meaning and value of ministry while discovering the value of true faith in the gospel and the dignity of saints by following only the principles of the Bible. However, Otto Weber and others argue that there is a major discontinuity between the theories of ministry of Luther and Calvin, who can be considered representative leaders of the Reformation and Reformed theology. In other words, they argue that, in Luther’s theory of ministry, the theory of priesthood of all believers is central and public ministry does not have much importance; whereas in Calvin’s theory of ministry, the importance of public ministry is greatly emphasized, and his ecclesiology itself can be said to be an ecclesiology centered on ministry theory. In particular, they say that the theory of priesthood of all believers is not only barely mentioned in Calvin’s theory of ministry, but also plays little role. Contrary to this claim, there is a view that there is considerable continuity between Luther’s theory of ministry and Calvin’s theory of ministry, and that the theory of priesthood of all believers also plays an important role in Calvin’s theory of ministry. Accordingly, this paper analyzes and compares the office theories of Luther and Calvin, who can be considered representatives of the Reformation and Reformed theology, to determine which of the views of the former and the latter mentioned above is valid and to argue for the reasons for this.
Through this, this study will show that Luther’s theory of ministry and Calvin’s theory of ministry have considerable continuity, and that Calvin’s theory of ministry has the nature of succeeding and developing Luther’s theory of ministry, including the theory of priesthood of all believers. Among them, we will show several points that distinguish Calvin’s theory of office from Luther’s theory of office. This paper also explains the spirit of the Reformation and Reformed theology that Luther and Calvin’s theory of office brings to today’s Korean Presbyterian Church - there should be no hierarchy between public officials of the church and believers, and there should be order according to roles and gifts in a horizontal and fraternal relationship; accordingly, public officials of the church must serve with an attitude of stewardship and believers must participate in church construction with an attitude of respect and cooperation – and application points will be presented.
