베트남 결혼이주여성들의 결혼생활에 관한 내러티브 탐구 (A Narrative Study on the Marriage Life of Vietnamese Married Migrant Women)

초록

본 연구는 베트남 결혼이주여성의 결혼생활에 관한 내러티브 탐구다. 베트남 여성은 한국과 베트남이 수교 이후 결혼이주가 시작되었기 때문에 동남아의 다른 국가 여성보다 늦게 이주하기 시작했지만 현재는 우리나라의 결혼 이주 여성 중 가장 많은 수를 차지하고 있다. 이 결혼 이주 여성의 결혼기간이 장기화되면서 결혼생활을 둘러싼 문제들이 다른 양상을 나타내고 있다. 초기의 언어와 문화의 차이로 인한 적응 갈등에서 본인들의 주체적인 삶과 자녀양육에 대한 염려로 달라지고 있다. 이러한 변화에 주목하여 베트남 결혼이주여성의 결혼생활을 심층적으로 이해하고자 하였다. 6명의 연구 참여자를 선정하였으며, 클랜디닌과 코넬리의 내러티브 탐구 방법을 적용하여 자료를 수집하고 분석하였다. 베트남 결혼이주여성의 결혼생활 이야기를 시간의 순서로 탐색한 결과 베트남 결혼 이주 여성의 결혼 생활은 <과거- 더 나은 삶을 향해 내딛은 발걸음> <현재– 낯선 땅에 뿌리 내리고 살아내기> <미래- 숙제로 남은 의사소통과 자녀양육, 평등한 삶>으로 나타났다. 참여자들의 국제결혼은 베트남이 종전 후 자본주를 받아들이고 한국과 국교를 맺었던 사회 변화가 이야기의 맥락으로 자리 잡고 있었다. 결혼 적응과정의 이야기는 참여자 개인에 따라 경험의 차이가 존재 했으며, 해석이 다른 상대성을 드러냈다. 참여자들은 결혼생활을 통해 비현실적 기대를 내려놓고 주체적인 삶을 지향하는 순환 과정을 통해 자신의 결혼과 삶에 대해 다른 경험을 하였고 새로운 해석을 창조하고 있었다. 본 연구 결과는 베트남 결혼이주여성들의 결혼생활에 대한 깊은 이해를 제공하고 다문화 가정을 위한 프로그램 개발, 상담과 교육을 위한 기초 자료로 활용될 수 있을 것이다.

영어초록

This study is a narrative exploration of the lives of Vietnamese married migrant women in Korea. They began migrating for marriage after Korea and Vietnam established diplomatic relations, and have since then become the largest group of married migrant women. As their marriage to Korean men has prolonged, the issues they face in their marriage have evolved and exhibit various patterns that differ from those of early marital life. For example, their independence and child rearing have increasingly become their primary concerns. In light of these changes, this study focuses on these significant aspects of their married lives.
For this study, six Vietnamese women were selected in consideration of marriage duration and Korean language proficiency. Data about their lives were collected and analyzed by using the narrative research method proposed by Clandinin and Connelly. When examining their marriage stories chronologically, they expect the following stages: a better life in the past, becoming deeply rooted and well settled in an unfamiliar land in the present, and achieving rich communication with neighbours, raising children, and enjoying an equal life in future. For these international married women, the social changes in Vietnam, i.e, especially the acceptance of capitalist values after the end of the war and the establishment of diplomatic relations, are clearly reflected in their narratives. In the story of the marriage adaptation process, experiences varied among individual participants, leading to different interpretations of their multicultural marriage lives.
This study shows that they are creating new experiences and interpretations through a circular process that discards unrealistic expectations and strives for a subjective life through marriage. This study certainly provides a deeper understanding of their married lives and can be positively used as data for family programs, counseling, and education to promote better communication between husbands and children, addressing the persistent and diverse problems they currently face.
