천년왕국 신라조의 삼국통일과 享國戰略 (A study on a Millennium Kingdom Silla’s Unification of the Three Kingdoms and the Reign Strategy)

초록

우리는 천여 년 동안 고구려를 과대평가하고, 세계사의 유례가 없는 992년의 역년을 누린 新羅朝(단기,2277∼3269)를 과소평가했다. 신라의 삼국통일도 唐나라를 끌어들였다고 하여 평가절하 했다. 만일 삼국이 그대로 존속했다면 한반도는 중국의 ‘郡縣’으로 전락했을 가능성이 많다. 앞으로의 남북통일이 미국 중국 등의 동조 없이 가능할 것인지를 생각해보면, 신라를 마냥 비난할 수만은 없다. 광활한 고구려 영토를 잃고 남쪽 일부와 백제 강토를 확보한 것은, 강대국 옆에 처한 우리로서는 선방일 수도 있다.
신라가 확보하지 못한 고구려 강역은 다행스럽게 우리 발해조가 차지했다. 소위 ‘남북국시대’를 맞아 신라와 발해가 서로 적대하여, 분단을 지혜롭게 극복 못한 것은 한으로 남았다. 그러나 신라가 한반도 대부분을 차지하고 고구려 백제 동포를 포용했기 때문에, 흉포한 중원 역대 제국주의 국가로부터 민족과 영토를 보존했다. ‘신라ㆍ고구려ㆍ백제’가 오늘처럼 동족개념이 강하지 않았다는 설도 있지만 이는 정설이 아니다.
고구려와 백제는 형제국가로 알려져 있고, 신라와 가야제국은 유사성이 있다. 신라와 伽倻의 최고 통치자 호칭이 ‘居西干ㆍ麻立干’과 ‘我刀干ㆍ神鬼干’ 등 ‘九干’의 ‘干’ 인 점도 암시하는 바가 있고, 辰韓과 가야가 뿌리가 같은 북방민족일 가능성도 있다. 가야가 사양길로 접어들자 백제가 아닌 신라에 귀의한 것도 우연이 아니고, 가야백성들의 저항도 별로 없었다. 신라는 통합한 가야 고구려 백제 유민들을 애정을 가지고 포용한 정책도, 267년의 통일왕조(단기,3002∼3269)를 지속하는데 기여했다.
천여 년 동안 신라조 역시 동아시아 경국이념이었던 ‘禮樂論’과 ‘正朔論’에 의거하여 국가를 통치했다. 신라의 경우 禮는 祭祀, 樂은 樂舞를 기저로 했다. 예는 ‘差異’ 악은 ‘和合’이라는 구도에서, ‘악무’를 통해 민인의 분열과 계층 간의 위화감을 없애려는 의지를 갖고 있었다. 고구려 백제 악무는 당나라가 전부 가져갔기 때문에 통일신라가 수용하지 못한 대신, ‘伽倻諸國’은 신라가 복속했기 때문에 그 악무를 전부 신라가 차지했다. 중세의 경우 정복국가가 피정복국가의 악무를 가져가는 것이 관례였다. 김부식이 고구려 백제 악무를 전부 중국 『史書』에 의존한 것과, 『삼국유사』가 <신라악무>만을 수록한 까닭도 여기에 있다.
敬順王은 천년사직을 헌납한 공으로, 왕건에 의해 ‘政丞公’으로 책봉 받고 그의 사위가 되어, ‘新羅’가 ‘慶州’로 격하된 점을 부끄러워하지도 않고, ‘食邑’으로 받아 여생을 호의호식하며 살았다. 나라를 바친 치욕의 망국군주를 일연선사가 ‘金傅大王’으로 추겨 세운 것도 이해하기 어렵다. 신라는 고구려 백제 등 중세 왕조와 달리 최고 통치자를 일컬어, 민족 고유의 ‘居西干ㆍ次次雄ㆍ尼師今ㆍ麻立干’ 등의 존호를 수백 년 동안 사용했고, ‘五京’까지 개설한 것은 본받아야 할 綱領이다.
천년왕국 신라는 이민족에게 정복된 적이 없고, 천년 수도 ‘東京’ 주변 해안과 육로를 철통같이 방위하여 외적에게 또한 침탈된 적이 거의 없었다. 아울러 병합한 ‘주변소국ㆍ가야ㆍ고구려ㆍ백제’ 遺民들을 따뜻하게 보위하여 부흥운동을 예방한 전략도 효과를 거두어, 260여년의 ‘팍스서라벌’의 治世​를 이룩했다. 신라가 쇠약해지자 ‘弓裔’와 ‘甄萱’이 등장하여 후삼국시대가 재현되었고, 고려 조선조의 천년을 지나자 ‘신라ㆍ고구려ㆍ백제ㆍ가야’의 ‘四國時代’가 재현되고 있는 분열의 시대를 우리는 살고 있다.

We overestimated Goguryeo for more than a thousand years and underestimated Silla[the Tan-gun Era, 2277∼3269], which enjoyed a series of years of 992 unprecedented in world history. Silla’s unification of the three kingdoms was also depreciated because Silla attracted the Tang(唐) Dynasty. If the three kingdoms had remained the same, there was a high possibility that the Korean Peninsula would have been degraded to ‘Counties and Prefectures[郡縣]’ of China. Considering whether the reunification of North and South Korea will be possible without the agreement of the USA and China in the future, we cannot just criticize Silla. Losing the vast territory of Goguryeo and securing parts of the south and the Baekje territory could be a good defense for us next to a powerful country.
Fortunately, Balhae took over the Goguryeo territory, which Silla could not secure. In the so-called ‘North-South States Period’, Silla and Balhae were hostile to each other, the failure to overcome the division wisely remained a regret. However, since Silla occupied most of the Korean Peninsula and embraced compatriots of Baekje and Goguryeo, it preserved its people and territories from imperialist countries of the ferocious central districts. There is also a theory that ‘Goguryo, Baekje, and Silla’ did not have as strong the concept of same race as they do today, but this is not an established theory.
Goguryeo and Baekje are known as brother nations, Silla and the countries of Gaya have similarities. There is also an implication that the names of the chief rulers of Silla and Gaya are the ‘Gan[干]’ of ‘Nine Gan[九干]’, such as ‘Geoseogan[居西干]ㆍMalibgan[麻立干]’ and ‘Adogan[我刀干]ㆍSingwigan[神鬼干]’ etc., and there is a possibility that Jinhan(辰韓) and Gaya are northern peoples with the same roots. As Gaya went into decline, it was no coincidence that Gaya returned to Silla, not Baekje, and there was not much resistance from the people of Gaya. Silla’s policy of affectionately embracing the refugees of Gaya, Goguryeo, and Baekje that were integrated by Silla contributed to the continuation of the 267-year Unified Dynasty[the Tan-gun Era, 3002∼3269].
For more than a thousand years, Silla Dynasty also ruled the country based on the East Asian ruling ideology of ‘Yeacklon[禮樂論]’ and ‘Jeongsaklon[正朔論]’. In the case of Silla, Ye[禮] was based on Jesa[祭祀] and Ack[樂] was based on Ackmu[樂舞]. In the structure of ‘Difference[差異]’ for Ye[禮] and ‘Harmony[和合]’ for Ack[樂], it had the will to eliminate the division of the people and the sense of incompatibility between the classes through the ‘Ackmu’. Because the Tang Dynasty took all the ‘Ackmu’ of Goguryeo and Baekje, so Unified Silla could not accept their ‘Ackmu’. Instead, Silla took over all the ‘Ackmu’ of Gaya because ‘the countries of Gaya’ was subjugated by Silla. In the case of the Middle Ages, it was customary for the conquest country to take the ‘Ackmu’ of the conquered country. This is why Kim Boo-sik relied on the 『History book(史書)』 of China for the ‘Ackmu’ of Goguryeo and Baekje, and the reason why 『Samgukyusa』 included only <Silla’s Ackmu>.
King Gyeongsoon[敬順王] dedicated the 1,000-year state to Goryeo, so he was proclaimed by Wang Geon as ‘Jeongseung-gong[政丞公]’ and became Wang Geon’s son-in-law. Furthermore, he was not ashamed that ‘Silla’ was downgraded to ‘Gyeongju’, and lived the rest of his life in affluence accepting as a ‘Sik-eub[食邑]’. It is also difficult to understand that Il-yeon Seon-sa praised the shameful monarch who dedicated his country as a ‘King Kim Bu[金傅大王]’. Unlike medieval dynasties such as Goguryeo and Baekje, Silla used honorific titles such as ‘Geoseogan[居西干]ㆍChachaung[次次雄]’ㆍIsageum[尼師今]ㆍMalibgan[麻立干]’ to refer to the supreme ruler for hundreds of years, and Silla’s establishment of ‘Ogyeong[五京, Five capitals]’ is a platform that should be emulated.
Silla, a millennium kingdom, was never conquered by the immigrants and was never invaded by foreigners by defending the coast and land around the thousand-year-old capital ‘Dong-gyeong[東京]’. In addition, the strategy of preventing revival movements by warmly protecting the refugees of the merged ‘Gaya, Goguryeo, and Baekje’ was effective, achieving the peaceful times of the 260-year ‘Pax Seurabal’. As Silla weakened, ‘Gung-ye[弓裔]’ and ‘Gyeon-hwon[甄萱]’ appeared, and the Later Three Kingdoms period was recreated. After the millennium of the Goryeo and Joseon Dynasty, ‘Goguryo, Baekje, Silla, and Gaya’ even appeared, and we are living in a dark era in which ‘Four Nations period’ is reproduced.
