초록

본 연구는 ‘종교문맹률’의 증가에 따른 현실 인식을 기반으로 대학 내 교양교육으로서의 종교교육 실태를 분석하고, 종교교육 과제의 바람직한 모형을 제시하는 데 그 목적이 있다.
단일민족이라는 통념을 지녀왔던 한국사회도 이제 전형적인 다문화․다종교사회로 변화되고 있으며 언어․문화적 배경이 다른 이주외국인들의 유입 증가와 이들을 통합시키는 데 종교가 중요 쟁점으로 부각되고 있다. 또한, 소수자의 종교에 대한 오해와 경시는 사회통합의 저해요소로 작용하고 있으며, 잠재적 사회분쟁의 요인이 되고 있다. 따라서 다문화사회에서 세계화와 한국화를 조화할 수 있는 대화와 공존의 지혜가 요청된다. 이를 위해 급변하는 현대 사회에서 전인으로 갖추어야 할 폭넓은 대학 교양교육으로서의 종교교육에 주목하였다.
대학의 교양교육은 목적에 따라 다양한 유형을 취하고 있어 합의된 의미를 도출하기는 쉽지 않다. 또한, 대학의 설립이념에 따라 각 대학에서 실시하는 교양교육의 목적과 지향점이 상이하다. 이러한 실정에서 교양교육에 있어 종교교육을 어떤 목적과 내용을 중심으로 어떻게 접근할 것인가에 대하여 명확한 정책을 제시하는 일은 어려운 과제라 하겠다. 하지만 시대상황과 시행목적에 따라 교양교육이 함의하는 바에 차이가 있을지라도 분명한 것은 인간의 자유를 구사할 수 있는 이성의 계발과 전인적 인간개발이라는 의미로 집약될 수 있다. 요컨대 대학 교양교육의 지향점은 전문적 능력의 신장과 함께 인격적 성장이 통합될 수 있도록 하는 기반 조성인 것이다.
이러한 맥락에서 종교교육은 특정 종교전통만의 시각을 일방적으로 주입하는 것이 아니라, 공동의 가치를 지향해야 하는 우리사회에 서로를 이해하고 포용하는 상생의 안목을 제공하여야 한다. 이러한 견지에서 본 연구는 대학 교양교육으로서의 바람직한 종교교육을 실시하기 위한 방안을 모색하였다. 종교교육의 개념은 종교를 가르치는 것이 아니라 종교에 대하여 가르치는 것으로 정착되어야 하고, 그렇게 된다면 종교교육은 범시민교육의 일환으로 모든 국공립대학교를 포함한 각급 학교의 유의미한 교양 교과목으로 그 기능을 수행할 것으로 전망한다.

영어초록

The purpose of this study is to analyze the status of religious education as a liberal arts education in universities based on the awareness of reality due to the increase of religious illiteracy, and to present the developmental search and future prospects of religious education tasks.
As you can see, Korea is a typical multi-religious society. Religion has become an important point of contention in integrating various members of the multicultural society as the number of migrant foreigners increases. Moreover, the disrespect and misunderstanding of minority religions is becoming a deterrent to social integration, and if this is deepened, it could serve as a factor in social conflict. Thus, we must learn the wisdom of dialogue and coexistence in the multicultural society where globalization and Koreanization should be balanced.
Consequently, religious education is requested as a wide range of liberal arts education to achieve a smooth life in a rapidly changing modern society. The liberal arts education of universities takes various types according to their purpose, making it difficult to find the agreed meaning. Also, the purpose of providing liberal arts education at universities varies from university to university according to its establishment ideology. In this situation, it is difficult to present a clear policy on how to approach religious education based on what purpose and content as a liberal education.
However, even if there are differences in the implications of liberal arts education depending on the times and the purpose of implementation, what is clear can be summed up as the development of rationality and well-rounded human development that can promote human freedom. In short, the goal of liberal arts education of universities is to lay the foundation for the integration of personal growth with the development of professional skills.
In this context, religious education is not a one-sided way of explaining one’s own world view, but provides an insight that all of those who are aiming for a community together are the main players of a multicultural society and see and understand each other. From this point of view, the study sought to provide desirable religious education as the liberal arts education of universities. The concept of religious education should be settled not as teaching religion, but as teaching “about” religion, and it is expected that religious education will function as a meaningful subject that can be taught at all levels of national and public schools as part of pan-civil education.
