초록

이 논문은 魯迅 소설 속 달 이미지에 대한 상징적 독해를 시도한다. 이러한 작업의 목적은 魯迅의 소설 창작 행위를 이성의 영역인 의식적 차원만이 아니라 감성의 영역인 무의식적 차원까지 고찰하고, 작품 자체에 대한 감상 및 작가에 대한 이해의 폭을 좀 더 넓혀보고자 하는 데에 있다.
2장에서는 魯迅 소설 속 달 이미지에 대한 상징적 독해를 위해 우선 달의 상징체계를 살펴보았다. 달은 ‘太陰’ 상징체계로서 여성 원리 및 죽음-재생의 순환을 그 대표적인 내용으로 삼는다. 달은 인류의 역사에서 감성의 항진 및 무의식의 심연과도 깊이 연관된다. 이 논문에서는 특히 달과 광기의 관계, 달과 서정적 감수성의 관계에 대해 집중적으로 조명했다.
3장에서는 魯迅의 작품집 《吶喊》, 《彷徨》, 《故事新編》에서 달 이미지가 등장하는 소설들을 선별하여 분석했다. <奔月>, <肥皁>, <藥>에서는 太陰의 여성 원칙이 표현되어 있음을 논의했고, <狂人日記>, <白光>, <弟兄>에서는 달이 광기와 본능을 드러내는 계기가 되었음을 밝혔으며, <故鄕>, <社戱>, <孤獨者>에서는 달이 향수와 고독의 감성을 매개하는 역할을 하고 있음을 고찰했다.
4장에서는 작품 속 달의 형상화가 魯迅의 무의식적 글쓰기과 어떠한 관련이 있는지를 살펴보았다. 우선 魯迅의 창작 행위를 상호텍스트 원리에 기댄 ‘팔랭프세스트(palimpsestes)’ 글쓰기로 보고, 그것이 매개하는 ‘심층적 기억’을 달의 상징체계와 관련하여 논의했다. 또한, 魯迅의 창작 행위를 무의식적 층위에서 고찰했다. 라캉(J. Lacan)은 ‘나는 내가 생각하지 않는 곳에 존재한다’라고 언명했다. ‘대타자(Other)’의 담론인 무의식은 魯迅의 유년 시절의 주변 환경과 직결되며, ‘심층적 기억’을 형성한다. 이미지에 대한 애착 및 도교, 비주류에 대한 관심은 魯迅의 무의식적 지향을 참조하며, 그것은 글쓰기를 통해 드러난다. 이러한 논의를 바탕으로 그의 소설 속 달의 이미지는 魯迅의 의식적 차원에서만이 아니라 무의식의 차원에서도 활용되었음을 밝혔다. 마지막으로, 융(C. G. Jung)의 ‘그림자(shadow)’ 개념을 이용해 魯迅 소설 속 달 이미지가 ‘그림자의 자각’과 관련이 있음을 논의했다. 특히 <弟兄> 작품을 창작하면서 魯迅이 자신의 그림자를 의식에 통합하는 과정인 ‘개성화(individualization)’를 성취했음을 밝혔다.
이 논문은 그간 魯迅 텍스트를 이해해온 주된 방식인 이데올로기적 접근이 아닌, 상징적 독해라는 관점에서 魯迅 및 魯迅 문학을 이해해보고자 하였다. 본고의 논의가 그간의 魯迅 문학 연구가 결락해온 부분에 대한 補論이 될 수 있기를 희망한다.

영어초록

This study attempts to read the moon imagery in Lu Xun(魯迅)’s novel, to which the lunar symbol system is related. The purpose of this discussion is not only to consider conscious aspect with reason, but also to ponder unconscious aspect with emotion of Lu Xun, which will broaden the scope of the esthetic appreciation of the literary work and the understanding of the author.
In chapter 2, I investigated the lunar symbol system to apprehend the moon imagery in Lu Xun’s novel. The moon has Tai-Yin(太陰) symbol system, which typically operates the feminine principle, Eros and the repetition of life and death. In the history of mankind, the moon is deeply involved with acceleration of sensibility and abyss of the unconscious. I specially focused on the connection of the moon and a lunatic, the relation of the moon and sensibility.
In chapter 3, I examined the moon imagery in the novels, The Call(吶喊), Paces back and forth(彷徨), Old Tales Retold(故事新編). By doing this, I argued these contents: in The Flight to the Moon(奔月), Soap(肥皁), Medicine(藥), the female principle of Tai-Yin was obviously demonstrated; in A Madman’s Diary(狂人日記), White Light(白光), Brothers(弟兄), the moon became a trigger for the revelation of lunacy and instinct; in Hometown(故鄕), Village Theatrical Performance(社戱), A Solitary Man(孤獨者), the moon represented emotions of nostalgia and loneliness.
In chapter 4, I reviewed how the moon imagery in Lu Xun’s novel referred to his unconscious creation. Firstly, I argued that Lu Xun’s literary creation displayed the palimpsestic writing based on the inter-textuality, by which his deep memories were mediated in relation to the lunar symbol system. Secondly, I illuminated that the literary creation by Lu Xun was closely related to his unconscious aspect. Jacques Lacan said “I think where I am not, therefore I am where I do not think.”, the converse of “Cogito, ergo sum(I think, therefore I am).”. Lu Xun’s unconscious, the discourse of the Other, was directly connected to the surrounding environment and culture in his childhood, which also formed his deep memories. His unconscious was linked to attachment for images and interest in Taoism, minority thing, therefore the orientation of his unconscious was revealed through his writing. On the basis of this argument, I illuminated that the moon imagery in his novel was utilized not only in conscious aspect but also in unconscious aspect. Lastly, I investigated that the moon imagery in his novel referred to “the encounter with the shadow” by using the Jungian shadow concept. Especially, I identified that the shadow of Lu Xun was embodied in his conscious life in the process of individuation by writing Brothers(弟兄).
This study aims at understanding of Lu Xun and his literary creation from the perspective of symbolic reading, which is distinguished from the way to analyze them by ideological approach, largely existing before. I believe that this study will be able to take a definite role in establishing a way of looking in order for diversified interpretation of Lu Xun and his literary creation.
