李陸史의 독립운동 시-공간(1926~1933)과 義烈團 문제 ― 通說의 분석적 재검토를 겸하여 ― (Yi Yuksa’s Time-Spaces of Overseas Activities(1926~1933) and the Problem of Membership of Ui’yeoldan)

초록

이 글은 총체적 육사연구의 진전에 기여코자 하는 의도로 작성되었다.
그런 뜻에서 李陸史의 독립운동에 관해 金喜坤敎授가 주도해 온 근래의
연구결과와 그로부터 인출된 통설 중에서 몇 가지 모호한 부분을 분석적
으로 재검토하여 보다 합당한 이해를 도모코자 하였다. 그 작업은 陸史
의 ‘독립운동 시－공간’의 사실적 재구성과 직결되는 것이기도 하다.
여러 종류의 자료들에 대한 비판적 검토와 재해석을 통하여 진행된 논
의의 요지는 다음과 같다.
첫째, 陸史는 1926년 7월에 北京으로 가서 가을에 中國大學 商科에 입
학하여 1927년 6월까지 2개 학기를 다니다(수학기간 7개월) 그만두고 8월
경 귀국했음이 거의 확실시된다.
둘째, 陸史가 1926년 하반기부터 1년간 廣州의 中山大學을 다녔으며
독립운동단체의 간부이기도 했다는 종래의 주장과 통설화는 전면 재검
토되어야 한다. 당시 廣州의 義烈團 및 留粤韓國革命同志會 간부였던 徐
應鎬의 상세한 진술 내용에 비추어 보더라도, 中山大學 재학생 명부와 일
제 관헌자료에 등장하는 ‘李活’ 관련 기록 내용의 정확성과 신뢰도를 의
심해보지 않을 수 없다. 또한 1930년대의 陸史의 필명을 1920년대로 소급
적용하여 무조건 同一人視하는 데도 여러 무리가 따른다. 가용한 자료의
종합적 검토 결과, 현재로서는 陸史의 ‘광주시절’은 不在했다고 보는 것
이 합당하다.
셋째, 1934년 ‘남경군관학교사건’의 한 피의자였던 陸史의 신문조서 자
료는 진술의 이면과 행간의 의미까지 감안하여 조심스럽게 해석되어야
한다. 被囚를 면하고 국내 활동공간을 확보키 위한 위장·기만 진술이 상
당 부분 있었음이 간취되는 것이다. 그런 맥락에서 자료를 음미하고 재
해석해 보면, 육사는 尹世冑와의 사전 연락이나 밀의에 의해 의열단의
독립운동 지원·가담을 목적으로 1932년 봄, 北京을 향해 떠난 것으로 추
정된다. 의열단 본부가 南京으로 옮겨갔음을 뒤늦게 알게 된 그는 다시
南京으로 뒤따라가 의열단의 조선혁명간부학교에 자진 입학하였다.
넷째, 조선혁명간부학교에 재학 중이던 6개월여의 시간은 그대로 陸史
의 ‘남경시절’이 되었다. 그 기간에 그는 혁명운동에의 본격적 투신을 위
한 사상적 입지를 다지고 이론적 무장을 기하였다. 그 연장선에서 陸史
는 의열단의 혁명운동노선을 수용하고 실질적 의열단원이 되었으며,
1933년에 ‘의열단 국내 공작원’으로서 밀파되었던 것이다.

영어초록

This paper is aimed at making an advancement in the overall study of Yi
Yuksa(李陸史; hereafter ‘Yuksa’), an all-round intelligentsia and resistance. In
that respect, the author re-examines analytically some obscure points among
the results of recent studies on Yuksa’s national independence movement
(NIM). The common view derived from those results is also critically
examined in prospect of more reasonable understanding, which would be
linked to a factual reconstitution of the time-space of Yuksa’s NIM.
Arguments proceeded through critical review and reinterpretation of
various kinds of materials can be summarized as follows:
Firstly, it is nearly confirmed that Yuksa went to Peking in July, 1926 and
entered the College of Commerce, the University of China in fall of the year,
to stay for two semesters till June, 1927, and then returned home about
August of the year.
Secondly, the existing common opinion that Yuksa attended the Sun
Yat-sen University in Kuangchou for one year and that he became then a
member of the managing staff of some association there for Korean NIM
should be thoroughly re-examined. Judging from the detailed statements of
Seo Eungho(徐應鎬), an executive of Ui’yeoldan(義烈團) and of the
Associated Comrades for Korean Revolution at Kuangchou(留粤韓國革命同志
會) at the same time, we can not but doubt of accuracy and reliability of the
records, which appeared on the student list of the Sun Yat-sen University as
well as in the documents made out by the Japanese imperialist governmental
authorities, about the name of Yi Hwal(李活) used mostly in 1930s as one
of the Yuksa’s pen names. It would be unreasonable to identify recklessly a
man with another person solely on the basis of pen name. A comprehensive
review of materials available leads us to say that ‘the times in Kuanchou’ for
Yuksa never existed.
Thirdly, the interrogatory on Yuksa as a suspect of the Case of Nanjing
Military Academy in 1934 should be carefully interpreted with a consideration
of meanings between the lines. For it is observed and caught up that there
were a great deal of camouflaging and deceiving statements in his
interrogatory for the purpose of escape from being prisoned and of ensuring
the space of domestic activities. In this context, it is presumed that Yuksa left
homeland for Peking in spring of 1932 according to a previous contact or
conclave with Yun Seju(尹世胄) for the sake of participation in or support of
Ui’yeoldan. Knowing belatedly that the headquarters of Ui’yeoldan had
moved to Nanjing, Yuksa went immediately to Nanjing and entered voluntarily
the Military-Political Academy for Korean Revolution(朝鮮革命軍事政治幹部學
校) founded by Ui’yeoldan.
Fourthly and finally, six months spent as a student of the Academy
became justly the ‘times in Nanjing’ for Yuksa. During those times, he laid
down the ideological base and got the theoretical armament for his own
devotion to revolutionary movement. By extension of it, he accepted the
programmed National Revolutionary action line of Ui’yeoldan, and became
an actual member of it. Consequently and eventually, he was appointed as
a domestic agent and secretly dispatched to homeland by Ui’yeoldan.
