초록

『대승기신론』(大乘起信論)과 원효의 『대승기신론소』(大乘起信論疏)에서가장 중요한 키워드 중 하나로 ‘마음’, 즉 ‘심’(心)을 들 수 있다. 그러나이 ‘마음’이라는 단어는 매우 폭넓은 의미로 사용되기에, 주의해서 읽지 않으면 정확한 의미를 이해하기 어렵다. 『기신론』과 『기신론소』에등장하는 ‘심’(心)은 ‘심체’(心體)와 ‘심상’(心相)으로 철저히 나누어 해석하는 것이 효율적이다. 비유하자면 심체는 도화지와 같으며, 심상은 도화지에 그려진 그림과 같다. 심체는 곧 심진여(心眞如)와 통하며, 심상은 심생멸(心生滅)과 통한다.
심체는 의식의 무한한 장이다. 과거·현재·미래의 연속되는 시간의흐름이 없고, ‘이것’과 ‘저것’과 같은 분별도 없다. 주관과 객관의 이원성을 넘어선 근원적 맥락이고, 순수하고 고요하며 형상이 없다. 그것이심체이든, 진여이든, 진심이든 어떠한 것으로 불리든 간에 모든 언설너머에 존재하는 기층이다.

One of the most important keywords in “Taeseung Kieshin non” and Wonhyo’s “Taeseung Kieshin non So” is ‘Mind’. However, the word ‘Mind’ is used in a very broad sense, so if you don’t read carefully, it’s easier to pass on with a familiar feeling than understanding the exact meaning.
‘Mind’ is effective in interpreting it by thoroughly dividing it into ‘the mind essence’ and ‘the mind phenomenon’. ‘The mind phenomenon.’ is like a drawing paper, and the image is like a painting on a drawing board.
‘The mind essence’ is an infinite chapter of consciousness. There is no continuous flow of time in the past, present, and future, and there is no discernment such as this and that. It is a fundamental context that goes beyond the duality of the main and the guest, pure and tranquil and without shape. It is the base that exists beyond all speech, whether it is called mind, truth, or whatever.
‘The mind phenomenon’ is based on ‘The mind essence’, but it is an image of an all-round boundary that is caused by obscurity. It is thought, language, concept, concept, image. Collect the facts that have spread out in the world, judge and discern them. ‘The mind phenomenon’ is an indispensable system necessary to ensure evolutionary survival. It has been constantly thinking, imaging and conceptualizing, dividing others from enemies, and separating them from their own allies in the harsh environment of eating or eating. So it is not a wise option to sin against it. It’s because we wouldn’t have been able to survive without that kind of action in the first place.
‘The mind phenomenon’ can soon be described as ‘experience,’ which is essential to living. The problem is, by its limitations, to stick to a private ‘I’. Thus, they aspire more and more to ‘experience’ and yearn for change and events. Wonhyo recommended going back to the ‘The mind essence’ from the limits of this "experience." Therefore, the key to enlightenment can be summed up as the transition from the ‘The mind phenomenon’ to the ‘The mind essence’.
But it’s not the end to reach ‘The mind essence’. Again, he should come out of ‘The mind essence’. to the world of ‘The mind phenomenon’ and manage the status quo wisely. This point is considered to be the true spirit of Bodhisattva that Wonhyo has shown throughout his entire life.
