삼연 김창흡의 증별시 검토—『農淵挽別』수록작을 중심으로— (A Review of Sam-yŏn Kim Ch'anghŭp’s Farewell Poetry: Highlighting the works included in Nong Yŏn Man Pyŏl)

초록

農淵挽別은 규장각한국학연구원에 소장된 1책 51장의 필사본 자료로, 農巖 金昌協과 三淵 金昌翕의 挽詩와 贈別詩를 수록한 선집이다. 이 책은 농암과 삼연 작품의 후대 수용 양상을 보여준다는 점에서 주목할 만한 자료이다. 이에 본고는 농연만별 수록작을 중심으로 김창흡의 증별시를 검토하고자 하였다.
먼저 농연만별에 수록된 삼연 증별시의 목록을 제시하고 작품 수록 양상 및 選詩 기준을 살펴보았다. 이 책에 수록된 삼연의 증별시는 39제 87수로서, 拾遺는 제외하고 三淵集 原集에서만 뽑은 것이다. 책의 편자는 使行과 赴任과 같은 公務 관련 送詩를 우선적으로 선발하고, 이어서 여타 사유의 증별시를 뽑았다. 사행과 부임 송시는 古詩를 제외한 近體詩는 모두 수록하였으며, 증별시임이 분명치 않지만 부임 송시와 비슷한 경개를 담은 작품(2편)을 함께 뽑았다. 공무상의 송시 위주로 선발한 점과 근체만을 수록한 점을 통해 ‘作詩 敎材’로서의 이 책의 용도를 확인할 수 있다.
이어서 삼연 증별시의 주된 정조와 그것의 형상화 방식을 세 측면으로 나누어 검토하였다. 분석 결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 삼연의 燕行 送詩에는 오랑캐 청에게 예를 행해야 하는 것에 대한 비분의 정이 강하게 드러나며, 이에 따라 ‘수심에 가득 찬 절의의 인물’로서의 사신 형상이 나타난다. 이와 관련하여 ‘蘇武’와 ‘金尙憲’의 표상을 사신들에게 중첩시키는 방식이 주목된다. 둘째, 연행과 통신사행의 송시에서 삼연은 遠游에 대한 선망과 이로 인한 神遊의 체험을 표현하였다. 삼연은 연행 송시에서 역사적·문화적 실체로서의 ‘中國’을 체험하고자 하는 열망을 직접적으로 표출한다. 그리고 일본 사행의 송시에서는 광활하고 낯선 풍광에서 종횡무진 시를 쓰는 시인의 형상을 묘사하고, 그들의 떠남이 자신의 神遊를 촉발했음을 토로한다. 또, 이국 체험을 통해 ‘記實’의 시를 쓰고 ‘詩境’을 넓힐 것을 당부하기도 했다. 셋째, 삼연의 赴任 送詩에는 隱者의 풍모를 지닌 관리의 형상이 나타나며 神仙的 정취가 주된 정조를 이루고 있는 작품들이 있는데, 이러한 작품들 속 은자의 형상에는 삼연 자신의 삶의 방식과 시적 지향이 강하게 투영되어 있다. 이러한 지향은 은거에 대한 권유로 이어지기도 한다.
본고는 山水詩와 <葛驛雜詠> 등의 대표작 외에 김창흡 작품의 다양한 측면을 고찰하였다는 의의가 있다. 아울러 『농연만별』에 수록된 삼연의 만시에 대해서 추가적으로 검토할 필요가 있다. 정형화되기 쉬운 만시와 증별시의 창작에서 삼연이 어떤 방식으로 참신함을 확보하고 있으며, 이것이 삼연의 다른 작품들에 나타나는 시적 지향과 어떤 연관이 있는지에 대해 살펴보는 것도 가능하다. 나아가 삼연의 만시와 증별시에 나타나는 개성적 측면이 전대 및 후대의 창작 경향과 어떤 연관을 맺고 있는지에 대한 논의도 필요하다. 이는 18세기 詩壇의 흐름과 관련하여 의미 있는 논의의 주제가 될 것이다.

영어초록

Nong Yŏn Man Pyŏl (Condolatory and farewell poetry of Nong-am and Sam-yŏn) is a manuscript collection of 51 sheets in one volume held at the Kyujanggak Institute for Korean Studies. It is an anthology of condolatory and farewell poetry written by Nong-am Kim Ch'anghyŏp and Sam-yŏn Kim Ch'anghŭp. This book is noteworthy because it shows the later recognition and acceptance of Nong-am and Sam-yŏn’s works. Therefore, this article aims to examine Sam-yŏn Kim Ch'anghŭp’s farewell poetry, focusing on the works included in Nong Yŏn Man Pyŏl.
First, I documented a list of Sam-yŏn's farewell poetry from Nong Yŏn Man Pyŏl and examined its selection criteria. From the list, 87 poems under 39 titles were selected from the main part of Sam-yŏn Jip (Collected works of Sam-yŏn), except “the supplement” of the collection. The book's compiler prioritized farewell poems related to public duties, such as envoy trips and proceeding to a new official post, followed by other farewell poems for various reasons. For the farewell poems for envoys and new officials, all new-style poems (近體詩) were included except for old-style poems (古體詩), and two works were selected that may not have been farewell poems but contained a similar mood as those for a new official. The fact that the book focuses on poetry related to official duties and includes only new-style poems confirms its purpose as a “teaching material.” Next, I examined the main tones of Sam-yŏn's farewell poetry and how it is embodied in each work from three aspects. The results of the analysis are as follows. First, in Sam-yŏn's farewell poems written for envoys dispatched to China, there is a strong resentment and sorrow in paying homage to the barbarian Qing. This is reflected in the image of the envoy as a “figure of integrity being full of worries.” Therefore, it is notable how the representations of Su Wu and Kim Sanghŏn are superimposed on the image of the envoy in this regard.
Second, in the farewell poems for envoys dispatched to China and Japan, Sam-yŏn expressed his longing for traveling and the resulting experience of an “imaginary trip.” In the farewell poems for envoys dispatched to China, Sam-yŏn expressed his desire to experience “China” as a historical and cultural entity. Meanwhile, in the farewell poems for envoys dispatched to Japan, he depicts the image of a poet writing endless poems in a vast and unfamiliar landscape. He discusses how their departure triggers his imaginary trip. He also urged them to write “poems documenting real things” through exotic experiences and expand their “poetry horizons.” Third, the farewell poems for new officials in which the figure of an official with the characteristics of a hermit appears and the mood of Shinsŏn (Taoist hermit with miraculous powers) life is the dominant tone show the unique aspect of Sam-yŏn's farewell poems. The figure of a hermit in these works strongly reflects Sam-yŏn's way of life and poetic orientation. This orientation also leads to the recommendation of a secluded life.
The significance of this study is that it examines one aspect of Kim Ch'anghŭp's work and his representative works, such as poems about nature and “Kal-yŏk Chap-yŏng.” In addition, examining the condolatory poems of Sam-yŏn contained in Nong Yŏn Man Pyŏl is necessary. It is also possible to examine how Sam-yŏn secures the novelty of creating condolatory and farewell poems, which can easily become stereotypical, and how this relates to the poetic orientation of Sam-yŏn's other works. Furthermore, discussing how the individualized aspects of Sam-yŏn's condolatory and farewell poems relate to the writing trends of his predecessors and successors is necessary. This would be a meaningful topic of discussion about the flow of eighteenth-century poetical circles.
