남태평양 멜라네시안 권역의 카고컬트와 식민지 건축에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Cargo Cult and Colonial Architecture in the Melanesian Region of the South Pacific)

초록

(연구배경 및 목적) 태평양 소형국가는 지속적인 문화식민의 역사와 경제식민을 거쳐 오고 있다. 본연구의 배경은 프랑스 영 국 공동문화권의 바누아투와 프랑스 문화권의 뉴칼레도니아를 중심으로 연구배경을 정했다. 초기의 남태평양은 영국과 프랑스 의 식민지 개척의 결과이고 최근의 관계는 지정학적 결과로 오스트레일리아 뉴질랜드 중국 일본의 진출이 현저한 양상이다. 이 러한 상황에서 태평양 시대의 동아시아권역인 우리의 참여도 중요한 시점으로 생각된다. 뉴칼레도니아와 바누아투는 태평양의 3개 권역 중 멜라네시아 권역에 속하는 국가다. 이 두 나라의 사례들을 중심으로 연구해 보고자 한다. (연구방법) 연구의 방법으 로는 두 나라의 문화상대주의적 현상 속에 나타난 카고컬트(Cargo Cult: 화물숭배)와 식민지 건축의 토착화 과정에서 건축사회 학적 관점에서의 실증적 연구를 진행한다. 남태평양의 소형국가는 의식주 종교 문화 경제가 최근까지 타민족과 종속적 관계에서 발전해 오고 있다. 이들의 문화 환경의 한계와 가능성, 전통과 문화의 모호성 및 경제적 관계를 연구하며 차후 남태평양 소형국 가의 고유문화(건축, 주거)와 동등한 문화유산의 보존과 계승의 필요성에 관한 현재의 상황을 연구 한다. (결과) 연구를 토대로 카고컬트적 현상과 포스트 식민지 건축의 올바른 가능성을 찾아보고자 한다. 거주자(원주민)의 생활환경의 변화와 문화 전통의 변화가 가져오는 현실 속에서, 전후 점령군의 문화를 거대한 미신으로 받아들임으로써 극단적인 형태모방을 일시적으로 가져왔 다. 이 조악한 숭배현상은 1980년 글로컬한 환경에서 식민건축을 극복하는 과정에서 반면교사의 역할과 동시에 결과적으로 긍 정적인 배경이 된다. 본 연구는 남태평양의 소형국가의 전통과 현실을 정당하게 발전시킬 수 있는 가능성을 결과로 제시한다. (결론) 1980년대 이후 프랑스의 시각에서 본 태평양은 세계의 새로운 축이 될 것이라 전망했다. 이것은 가까운 미래에 태평양의 시대가 도래한다는 것을 의미한다. 동아시아의 국가로서 우리는 태평양 시대에 인적자원과 기술자원 건축 환경과 문화 이식의 가능성을 태평양에서 찾아보는 것은 의미 있는 것이 될 것이다. 태평양의 소형국가에 반드시 필요한 영역을 넓히고 공생의 환경 에 관한 건축적 모델을 구축하는 기초가 되길 기대한다.

영어초록

(Background and Purpose) The small Pacific nations have continuously experienced colonial rule and economic colonization. The background of this study is research on Vanuatu in the UK and New Caledonia in the French culture. The early South Pacific experienced extensive colonization by Britain and France, although its recent relationship with Australia, New Zealand, China, and Japan has become noticeable for the geopolitical reasons. Under these circumstances, Korean participation in the East Asian region of the Pacific era is also considered to be important. New Caledonia and Vanuatu are part of the Melanesian region of the three major districts in the Pacific Ocean. This article tries to focus on the empirical cases of these two countries. (Method) As a method of research, the study of architectural sociology is carried out by consulting extant literature and historical accounts, which include everything from cargo cults to colonial architecture in the cultural relativistic phenomena of the two countries. Small countries in the South Pacific have developed relations dependent on other ethnic groups until recently. The study examines the limitations and possibilities of these cultural environments, the ambiguity and economic relationship between tradition and culture, and researches the current situation of the necessity of preservation and succession of cultural heritage equivalent to the inherent culture (e.g., architecture, housing) of the small South Pacific nations. (Results) Based on these studies, this article discovered the reality of certain cargo religions and the role of postcolonial architecture in emphasizing the temporary imitations of the extremes by accepting the postwar occupation culture as a gigantic superstition. This coarse worship phenomenon, in the process of overcoming colonial architecture in a local environment in 1980, is a positive aspect as well as a negative example. The article is based on the research of case studies and the present situation of the phenomenon of indigenous peoples wishing only to design a desirable future in the reality brought about by changes in the living environment of the residents (indigenous people) and cultural traditions. This study looks forward to expanding the spirit of our countries through the cooperation of the small countries of the Pacific Ocean where the spirit of cooperation is indispensable and designing the basis for building an architectural model of a symbiotic environment. (Conclusion) From the French perspective since the 1980s, the Pacific has been a new axis of the world. This means signals the coming of the Pacific era in the near future. At that time, it will be meaningful to explore the possibilities of human and technical resources, architectural environment, and culture in the Pacific as a country in East Asia.
