한국어 초록

쟁년(爭年)설화와 기노(棄老)설화는 ‘노인에 대한 인식의 오류를 바로잡기’ 위한 것이다. 동아시아 공동체에서 전파되고 회자된 이들 에피소드는, 한국민담에서 선택적으로 재단되어 발전되었다. 인문학적 윤리의식 속에서 ‘노인에 관련된 이야기’는 다양한 담론을 우리에게 선사한다. 이들 에피소드는 단순히 ‘효행의 교훈담’이 아니라, 노인에 대한 새로운 시각을 제시하고, 공동체의 균열을 가져올 수 있는 해체를 방지하려는 잠재력을 가졌다.이들 설화에서 보인 노인에 대한 지식은 복합적이고 섬세하다. 노인은 초자연적인 범주에서부터 시작해서 현실 경험에 이르기까지 놀라운 역량을 발휘한다. 노인은 전략적 지식의 소유자이지만, 단순히 생명체로 간주 되어 폭력의 대상일 수 있고, 무가치한 존재로 격하되기도 한다. 그러나 존경의 대상으로 추앙되기도 한다. 노인을 대하는 태도는 다양하고 복잡하다. 우리는 아이와 노인을 돌보아야 하는 대상으로 바라보기보다는 그들 존재가 가진 역할과 역량에 관심을 두는 시각적 전향이 필요하다. 한국민담에서 쟁년(爭年)과 기노(棄老)설화는 일정부분 이러한 의도에 따라 전개된다.

영어 초록

Korean Folk-tales that boast "who is older" and Korean folk-tales that abandon old people are part of a project to "correct errors in perception of old people. These episodes, spread and spoken in the East Asian community, were optionally cut and developed in Korean folklore. In a sense of humanistic ethics, "The Story of the Old Man" presents us with a variety of discourse. These episodes were not simply "the lesson of filial piety," but had the potential to present a new perspective on the elderly and prevent dissolution that could lead to a rift in the community. The old man's knowledge in these stories has a complex and delicate tendency. Older adults, from supernatural categories to real-life experiences, display amazing capabilities. The old man is the owner of strategic knowledge, but may simply be regarded as a creature and be the object of violence, demoted to worthless beings, but sometimes revered. Attitudes toward the elderly are diverse and complex. We need a visual twist that pays attention to the roles and abilities of their beings rather than looking at them as objects to take care of children and the elderly. In Korean folk-tales, these stories will be told in part in accordance with this intention.
