온양온천의 역사적 변용에 대한 고찰

본 연구는 올바른 온천문화 및 온천관광지의 구축을 위한 기초연구로서, 온양온천을 대상으로 그의 발전과정과 사회적 공간적 변용 특성을 분석한 것이다. 분석결과 다음과 같은 결과를 얻었다.1. 온양온천의 발전역사를 보면 크게 온천 발생기, 보양치료기, 온천개발기, 온천관광발전기, 온천개발의 과열 및 침체기, 온천의 재도약기의 6획기로 구분된다. 전체적인 발전특성으로는 온천정을 중심으로 한 공간적 집약체로 발전하다가, 관광객 위주의 정책이 추진되고 이러한 구조가 해체되면서, 다양한 문제가 발생하는 것으로 나타난다.2. 온양온천의 기반적 여건 및 사회적 이슈의 변화를 보면, 기반적 여건에서 나타나는 자원의 특이성, 교통 및 서비스 기반, 관리형태 등이 온천관광지의 성패를 좌우하는 중요한 요인인 것으로 나타난다.3. 또한 온양온천의 공간적 변용에서 보면, 온천관광지의 발달에 있어서는 온천지를 중심으로 한 공간적 집약화와 함께, 주변자원 및 교통망과의 연계도 공간구성 측면에서는 중요한 것으로 파악된다.4. 온천법이 전면 개정되면서 온천지구의 역할에 있어서는 한국온천 문화(정서), 차별화(특성화)된 온천 및 국민들이 즐겨 찾는 관광자원으로 활용을 기대하고 있다.5. 따라서 이러한 기반적 여건과 공간적 변용 특성 등을 토대로, 새로운 온천문화 및 온천관광지를 구축해 나가는 것이 바람직 할 것으로 판단된다.

영어 초록

This study is aimed at establishing right hot spring cultures and tourist attractions around hot springs. For the study, development processes of hot springs in Onyang and features of their social and spacious transfiguration were analyzed and following results were produced.1. The history of development of Onyang hot springs is divided into six eras; 1) their formation, 2) recuperation and treatment, 3) their development, 4) their development as tourist attractions, 5) overheating and depression of their development and 6) their bouncing back. A look at characteristics of overall development shows that Onyang hot springs were developed as a spatially integrated body centering hot spring wells. As tourist-oriented policies began to be adopted and such a structure was dissembled, various problems took place.2. According to foundational conditions of Onyang hot springs and changes of social issues, specificity of resources appearing in foundational conditions, traffic and service bases and management patterns have been important factors which determined success of hot springs.3. The spatial transfiguration of Onyang hot springs shows that the spatial integration centering hot springs and connection between surrounding resources and traffic networks are important in an aspect of spatial organization in development of hot springs.4. As a result, it is desirable to establish new hot spring cultures and related tourist attractions based on such foundational conditions and spatial transfiguration features.
