돈호법을 중심으로 본 시조 작시법

이 연구는 시조에 나타나는 돈호법의 다양한 양상들을 탐구하였다. 돈호법은 시조에서 많이 사용된 수사법의 하나로서, 단지 문체상의 특징으로 머무르지 않고 시조의 공식구적 표현과 의미구조 그리고 발상과 깊은 관련을 맺는다. 그런 점에 착안하여 이 연구는 돈호법을 중심으로 한 시조 작시법을 기술하는 데 목적을 두었다. 연구 방법으로 『시조문학사전』(정병욱 편) 소재 시조들을 분석하여 시조에서 돈호법이 사용된 양상과 호명된 대상의 유형들을 검토하였다. 검토의 결과 다음과 같은 경향을 발견할 수 있었다. 시조의 초장에 돈호법이 오는 경우는 사람보다는 사물이나 추상적인 관념을 호명의 대상으로 선택하는 경우가 많고 의문문과 주로 함께 쓰인다. 반면 시조의 종장에 돈호법이 오는 경우는 사람 특히 ‘아희’(童子)를 불러들이는 경우가 많고 이때는 명령문이 가장 많이 사용된다. 이와 같은 검토 작업을 통해서 돈호법이 시조를 쓸 때에 공식구적 표현의 목록과 의미구조의 유형을 선택하는 틀이 된다는 것을 확인 할 수 있었다. 또한 돈호법의 효과는 상황마다 다를 수 있지만 근본적으로는 청자나 호명된 대상과의 관계를 지향하는 발상을 추구하였음을 확인하였다. 이 연구는 작시법을 운율 규칙으로 제한하여 생각하기 보다는, 내용의 생성, 조직, 표현의 유기적인 체계로 보고 논의를 전개하였다. 따라서 고대 수사학이 제시한 담론 생산방식인 ‘발상’, ‘배열’, ‘표현’의 체계를 따라 돈호법을 중심으로 한 시조 작시법을 밝히고자 한 것이다. 앞으로 이 연구 결과를 바탕으로 작시 과정에 따른 전략이나 창작 모델을 재구성해 본다면 시조 창작 교육의 내용으로 활용될 수 있을 것으로 기대한다.

영어 초록

This study explored various methods of apostrophe used in Si-jo, the Korean traditional fixed-form poetry. Apostrophe is one of the rhetoric devices that have been used most frequently in Si-jo, and since it is closely related to the structure of Si-jo and its conception, apostrophe should not be considered merely as an antiquated figure. In this light, this study aims to describe how to write Si-jo using apostrophe. Thus, the condition of using apostrophe and the types of objects from over two thousand pieces from the Si-jo anthology are described in this study. Tendency as the following were found. The first line of Si-jo, apostrophe tends to address objects or abstract ideas rather than human―preferably birds―and interrogative sentences are most common. Whereas, the 3rd and also the last line tends to address human, especially a boy valet 'dong-za(童子)', and imperative sentences are more relevant. The examination revealed that if apostrophe is meant to be used in Si-jo, it could offer the list of formulaic expressions and more or less settle the structure of the meaning. Furthermore, the effect of apostrophe could differ depending on the situation, but the conception is mainly concerned about the relationship with the audience or the object that is referred to. This study suggests that writing Si-jo could be regarded as the correlated system of conception, expression, and structure rather than just metrics. In this paper, the ways of writing Si-jo using apostrophe is described according to the way of discourse formation―‘inventio’, ‘dispositio’ and ‘elocutio’, which has been suggested by ancient rhetoric. For further study it would be interesting to look into the model or the strategy of writing Si-jo.
