도동서원(道東書院) 제향의례(祭享儀禮)의 특징(特徵)

道東書院에서는 춘추로 享祀 및 墓祭를 지내는데, 그 특징을 정리하면 다음과 같다. 첫 번째로 이 서원에서는 省牲壇으로 강당 옆에 石床을 만들어놓고, 그 위에 돼지를 올려놓고 희생으로서 충분한지를 세 번 묻는 省牲禮를 행한다. 현재는 석상에 돼지를 묶고 성생례를 행한다. 그리고 도동서원에서는 東入東出의 행례 동선이기 때문에, 헌관은 사당에 들어갈 때 동쪽 계단을 통해 동문으로 들어가고, 나올 때에는 동문을 통해 나와 동쪽 계단으로 내려온다. 또한 헌작마다 三祭酒를 하기 때문에 다른 서원에는 없는 茅沙器가 香盒 옆에 있으며, 헌작 후 재배로써 종헌례 후에 三獻官만 재배를 한다. 도동서원에서는 다른 서원과 달리 飮福受?禮 후에 초헌관만 서쪽을 바라보고 재배하고, 나머지 제관은 북쪽을 바라보고 재배를 한다. 또한 도동서원에는 望?禮 때 坎을 사당 서쪽 담장 중간에 구멍을 내어 만들어놓았기 때문에 이곳에서 축문과 폐백을 태운다. 그리고 도동서원에서는 향사를 마치고 강당에서 唱笏에 따라 축, 집례, 초헌관 순으로 헌관과 모든 제관의 잔에 술을 따르고 난 후 서로 읍하고 잔을 비우는 飮禮를 마치고 음복 겸 아침 식사를 한다. 도동서원에서는 춘추 향사 외에도 서원 뒤에 있는 김광필의 묘소에서 墓祭를 지낸다. 이것은 鄭逑가 朱子의 武夷故事를 따라 春秋 墓祀를 서원에서 설행하도록 조치한 이래로 음력 3월 10일과 10월 2일에 묘제를 지냈는데, 현재는 가을 묘제만 지내고 있다.

Firstly, at Dodong Seowon(道東書院), a stone table is set up next to the lecture hall as the Seongsaengdan(省牲壇). The sacrificial pig is placed on this stone table and the ritual of asking three times if the animal is adequate as an offering is performed. The pig is usually tied to the stone table for the inspection ritual. Secondly, as Dodong Seowon observes the principle of "enter and exit through the east," the officiants climb the eastern stairs and enter the shrine through the eastern doors. They exit the same way. There are access stairs for the central and eastern doors but none for the western doors. Thirdly, at Dodong Seowon, when the officiants offer a goblet of wine, they pour a little of it three times into the mosagi(茅沙器; abowl filled with sand and a bundle of thatch) before offering it in front of the spirit tablet. This ritual is called samjwae(三祭). Thus, Dodong Seowon has a mosagi, and most other academies do not. at Dodong Seowon, they do not offer two bows in front of the spirit tablets. All three officiants offer two bows together after the offering of the last libation. Fourthly, at Dodong Seowon, the first wine officiant proceeds to a table prepared in front of the eastern doors of the shrine and kneels facing west. He partakes of the food and drink and then offers two bows. At other academies, the first wine officiant returns to his designated position after partaking of food and drink. Then, either the three officiants offer two bows or all participants offer two bows. Fifthly, at Dodong Seowon, a niche is dug into the western wall encircling the shrine, halfway up the wall. This is where the eulogy and sacred gift are burned. Most academies dig a pit in the ground; only Dodong Seowon dug a niche into a wall. Sixthly, at Dodong Seowon, after the memorial rite is over, all ritual participants share the food which has been enjoyed by the spirits and honor the merits of the spirits. In accordance with the instructions of the master of ceremonies, the cups of the officiants and participants are filled three times. Then, all of them offer a half bow to each other and drink. That concludes the Junnye(飮禮), after which they eat. Seventhly, at Dodong Seowon, following the precedents of Zhu Xi(朱子) when he stayed on Mt. Wuyi(武夷故事), grave rituals are offered at Kim Goeng-pil`s(金宏弼) grave, located behind the academy. These are performed on the tenth day of the third lunar month and the second day of the tenth lunar month every year.
