영어 초록Plato`s dialogue, Parmenides has been read as everything from a joke to an exercise of dialectic in the detection of fallocies, even to a revelation of the Unknown God. But recently R.E. Allen(1983) used the structure of Parmenides as a control on the interpretation of individual passages, to solve the dialogue as one might crack a code, in order to obtain within such limitation as that subject-matter may admit results which are probably true. M.H. Miller, JR.(1986) also said the dialog-form as Mimetic Irony and strucure to interpret the relation of the two main parts of Parmenides fitted together to constitute a typical dramatic wholes. The aim throughout this essay is to use the double meaning theory(not F.M.Conford`s ambiguity theory) of the main terms of Plato`s dialectic(one-plulality, whole-part, same-different, etc.) which is obtained through the analysis of Zeno`s plulality argument, to reveal the function of The One in the first hypothesis, or to find out the logical characteristics of The One in relation to Parmenides` ontology. The results that are gained by using double-meaning theory are to be that the dialectical function of The One of the first hypothesis is just the same as that of the second hypothesis. But The One of the first hypothesis is different from that of the second hypothesis in it`s contents. The One of the first hypothesis excludes all things that are contained in the one of the second hypothesis. So if we consider the relation between the dialectic of the first main part of this dialog(Parmenides` criticism of Socrates` eidos-theory) and the hypothetitcal exercise of zenonnion dialectic of the second part, `fhe One of the first hypothesis must have some logically compensatory relation to the one of the second hypothesis so that it has double meaning. So, this essay tries to find out the double meaning of The One in the first hypothesis in relation with the historically-said Parmenides` C)ne. In regard to the ontological problems of Plato`s eidos, this essay suggests double-aspect theory, which consists in the dialectical reduction of Plato`s early atomic eidos theory, and shows the difference of the truth value criteria between logical status and ontological status of Plato`s language through hermaneutic analysis of the One in the first hypothesis. In short, in this dialog the hypothetical exercises of zenonian dialect are the critical responses to Parmenides` criticism of Socrates` eidos theory of te first part.
