The contents I have studied so far can be summerized as the following. The author of "Virtuous Lady of Dahn-chon County" is Mr. Ki In(奇士寅) who was born in 1618. He was called "In-ryang"(寅亮) before he became an adult. He won the third rank of the triennial Literary Licentiati Examination(進士試) in 1639. His father, Mr. Ki Mahn-hon(奇晩獻), was Headman of Dahn-chon County, Hamkyong Province. One of his name characters was sometimes printed as "심인" but not "上寅". The latter, however, seems to be correct if we rely on the Passer Lists of Lower Level Licentiate(사마방목) which was published in public every triennial term. His father was born in 1593 and was called "Shi-gah(時可)," when he was young, whose father, Mr. Ki Rahn(奇蘭), was Local Governor of Jahng-soo District. He also passed the Classics Licentiati Examination(生員試) in 1612, remarking himself as the third rank, and then Irregular Civil Service Examination(別試 文科) in 1628. He had worked for the Central Government as first a position of Critics (正言) and then Equilibrium (持平). In fall, 1637, he was given to Headman of Dahn-chon County but documents tell us that corruption deprived him of the position in spring, 1641. According to Governmental Documents and the Plea to King by Mr. Kim Soo-hahng, it is proven that Mr. Ki In loved Il-sun who was an official entertainer of Dahn-chon County. Mourning his death with widow`s weed, she firmly remind faithful to the memory of him for the rest of her life.
