본 연구의 목적은 학업중단의 위기에 놓여있는 중․고등학교 학생들이 학교에서 겪는 소외
와 그로 인해 나타나는 소외양상을 탐색하여 이들을 위한 교육적인 대안을 제시하는데 있다.
이를 위해 소외를 사회구조 속의 현실과 관련 맺는 개인의 주관적인 심리문제로 본 Seeman
의 소외론을 토대로 학교라는 사회적 구조 속에 놓인 학생들이 겪는 소외의 의미를 탐색하고
소외의 양상을 살펴보았다. 학업중단의 위기에 놓여있는 학생들은 수업과 성적에 대한 낙심
을 겪고 있으며, 자신의 미래에 효용가치가 없고 재미없는 배움으로 무의미한 시간을 견디고
있었다. 교사와 학교에 대한 불신감이 높고 배우는 대상과의 관계 맺기로부터 단절되어 제 3
의 대상에 집중하는 제한된 대인관계를 맺는 것을 선호하는 것으로 나타났다. 한편, 학업중단
위기학생들이 나타내는 소외양상을 살펴본 결과 심리 양상, 일상적 행동 양상, 공격적 행동
양상으로 유형이 도출되었고 유형간의 관계는 심리, 행동의 순으로 단계성이 있었으며 역의
강화관계도 존재함을 확인하였다.
이러한 연구 결과를 바탕으로 학업중단 위기학생들도 수업에 함께 참여하여 소외감을 해소
할 수 있도록 상호 호혜적인 배움이 일어나는 수업설계와 개별화 수업을 제시하며, 이들의
일탈이나 비행을 문제행동으로 인식하기보다는 소통을 향한 몸짓, 소외의 신호로 이해하려는
인식의 전환, 학업에는 자질이 부족하지만 다양한 빛깔을 가진 학생들이 그들의 색을 발산할
수 있는 유연한 교육제도 확충, 가정의 결손을 채울 수 있는 학교의 가정 보완적 기능변화를
교육적인 대안으로 제시하였다.

영어 초록

The objective of this study was to identify the alienation experienced by students
at the risk of dropout and the alienation pattern associated with it and propose
educational alternatives for them. To achieve these objectives, we explored the
meaning of alienation, which students at risk of dropout experienced in a school, a
social structure. It was analyzed based on the theory of alienation by Seeman.
Study results showed that students at risk of dropout felt powerlessness because
there was nothing they could do about lesson and academic performance. Moreover,
they spent meaningless time due to fast pace teaching and lecture without true
learning experience. Furthermore, they had high distrust on teachers and education
so they were disorder in school. They preferred to make a limited relationship and
focus on the third object because they were isolated from the meaningful learning
and relationship in school.
After examining the alienation pattern of students at risk of dropout, their patterns
were classified into three patterns; a sense of alienation inherent only at the
psychological level, (common behavior type with) external expression without
aggressive behaviors, and aggressive behavioral pattern with having aggressiveness to
others. The relationship among patterns had levels in the order of psychology and
behavior and it works in the reverse order as well.
Based on these study results, (1) class design to facilitate mutually beneficial
learning, which can resolve alienation feeling by allowing students at risk of
academic interruption to participate in classes, (2) developing community care system
to help them overcome broken home condition and academic abandonment, (3)
conversion in recognition with trying to understand early age deviation and misdeed
as a gesture of a communication rather than problematic behavior, and (4) creating
an environment for students with low academic achievements but many talents to
shine their own talents and trust building between teachers and students were
proposed as educational alternatives
