This paper investigates direct licensing of Case in Korean. First, we examine licensing of Accusative Case. Licensing of Accusative Case is as follows: (i) Accusative Case of arguments is licensed by an activity verb which governs them. (ⅱ) Accusative Case of non-locative adverbs is licensed by an activity verb which c-commands them. (ⅲ) These two well explain licensing of Accusative Case in Double Accusative Construction. Second, we examine licensing of Nominative Case. We show that a transitive adjective, VP, and S are licensers of Nominative Case. Licensing of Nominative Case is as follows: (ⅳ) A transitive adjective licenses Nominative Case of its object. (ⅴ) VP licenses Nominative Case of the NP which it governs. (ⅵ) S licenses Nominative Case of the NP or the PP which it governs. Relevant generalizations are as follows: (ⅶ) V is the head of S, and hence S is represented a s V"``, a p rojection of V. (ⅷ) T he c ommon factor of a transitive adjective, VP, and S, is V, since V is the head of S and S is represented as V"``, a projection of V.
