This study examines which characteristics the relations and response methods of childrenhaving problematic behaviors and mothers show according to types of children’s problematic
behaviors by analyzing the interaction of children and their mothers. The objects of this study
are eight children having 63 points of T score in K-CBCL externalizing or internalizing among
children who visit counseling institutions and their mothers. Methods of this study is coding and
analyzing the records of observation scenes for recorded interaction according to PCITCS.
As a result, mothers whose children having problematic behaviors have high response
frequency in the items of ‘questions’ ‘negative personal opinion on others’ ‘restriction’ and ‘cross
fertilization with oneself‘ And children have high response frequency in the items of ‘explanation’
‘positive answers’ ‘evasion’ ‘participation requirement of others’ ‘offering of nurture’ and ‘items
which cannot be coded.’ Examined by types, children having externalizing behavior problems
make a lot of response to the items of ‘explanation’ ‘positive answers’ ‘offering of nurture’ and
‘items which cannot be coded.’ And their mothers make a lot of responses in the item of
‘communication with oneself.’ Children having internalizing behavior problems have high
response in the items of ‘evasion’ ‘participation requirement of others’ and ‘a jump of daydream.’
And mothers have high response frequency in the items of ‘negative personal opinions on others’
‘sociable conversation’ and ‘items which cannot be coded.’ Characteristics of these interactions
can indicate the results integrated, giving and taking feedback each other on individual
peculiarity and specialty, which means it will be very useful to examine conflicts between a
child and his/her mother in their interactions for dealing with the child’s problematic behaviors
as ways which the interactions perceive and mediate the characteristics between both sides.
