The purpose of the present study was to examine the needs of students attending a local university in terms of the variety of English they want to be exposed to, English skills they find most difficult to learn, those skills they want to improve most, and types of class activities or tasks to be included in the classes. For this purpose, a survey was administered to students enrolled in English courses taught by international faculty. A total of 409 responses were collected for analysis and description. The results of the survey are as follows: First, while students wanted to learn English from native English teachers, they also wanted to learn English as an international language. Second, Speaking was considered the most difficult to learn by students, followed by Grammar, Listening, Writing, and Reading. Third, while students prefer native speaker professors to teach them Speaking and Listening, they prefer Korean professors to teach major subjects and proficiency courses such as TOEIC or TOEFL. It is hoped that the results of this study can be applied for improving the English education system at other local universities as well.
