본 연구는 다양한 사회문제로 인하여 역할의 다양성이 요구되고 있는 현대사회에서 간호사와 사회복지사
가 현장에서 효율적이고 합리적인 업무를 수행하기 위해 직업에 대한 전문직 정체성이 중요한 요인으로 작
용한다는 점에서 시도하였다. 간호사와 사회복지사의 전문직 정체성을 파악하여 이를 강화하기 위한 방안
을 모색하기 위해 의료기관과 사회복지시설에서 근무하는 간호사와 사회복지사 208명을 대상으로 조사하여
다음과 같은 결과를 얻었다. 첫째. 두 집단 간에는 직업을 선택하게 된 동기부터 뚜렷한 차이를 보였다. 간
호사는 목적의식 없이 가족의 권유, 취업의 수월성, 직업에 대한 전망 때문에, 사회복지사는 적성, 직업에
대한 전망, 이타적 심성 때문으로 나타났다. 둘째, 두 집단의 이직에 대한 생각도 간호사가 사회복지사를
크게 앞지르고 있었다. 이직 사유 역시 간호사는 불규칙한 근무시간과 낮은 보수, 사회복지사는 낮은 전문
직 정체성과 보수로 조사되었다. 셋째, 두 집단의 전문직 정체성의 수준은 간호사와 사회복지사가 거의 비
슷한 수준이었으나 영향을 미치는 요인으로는 간호사는 근무형태, 결혼유무, 직원 수, 채용방법 등이 유의
미한 차이를 보였고 사회복지사는 유의미한 차이를 보인 요인이 없었다. 전문직 정체성에 미치는 요인의
영향력이 간호사는 36.9%, 사회복지사는 25.7%로 나타났다. 이는 대형병원의 통상근무자, 기혼자, 급여가
높은 간호사와 소명의식이 높고 적성에 맞으며 법인시설에서 통상근무하면서 경력이 많은 사회복지사의 전
문직 정체성이 높을 것으로 예상할 수 있다. 따라서 두 집단의 전문직 정체성을 향상시키기 위해서는 첫째,
두 집단 모두 대민서비스가 주요 업무이므로 윤리와 철학 및 자원봉사론과 같은 과목을 필수화함으로써 이
타적인 직업관의 중요성을 강조해야 할 것이다. 둘째, 사회의 인식변화를 위하여 학위 및 자격제도를 강화
하고 질적 서비스를 위한 계속교육을 확대해야 할 것이다. 셋째, 이직에 대한 생각을 버리고 장기근속을 통
해 업무를 효율적이고 능동적이고 수월하게 수행함으로써 전문직 정체성을 높일 수 있도록 급여체계의 개
선과 전문조직체의 가입과 권익옹호의 기능을 활성화해야 할 것이다.

영어 초록

In a modern society in which a demand for diverse roles increases to solve various social problems, social expectations
on nurses and social workers have further increased. In order for both groups to fulfill their duties in an efficient
manner, professional identity is important. Hence, this study has performed a questionnaire survey against 208 nurses
and social workers to figure out the differencein identity between the two groups. After analyzing the survey using
SPSS/Win 12.0, the following results have been obtained: First, in terms of motives for selecting profession, clear
difference was found between the two groups. Nurses have chosen nursing as their profession because of family
recommendation, easiness to get a job and occupational outlook without any clear sense of purpose while social workers
have chosen their profession based on their aptitude, occupational outlook and altruistic mind. Second, in terms of
willingness to change careers, the nurses’ group was far greater than the social workers’ group. When asked about the
reasons for the career transitions, nurses responded irregular working hours and low pay while social workers said poor
professional identity and low pay. Third, professional identity levels were almost same between the two groups. However,
in terms of the factors which have an impact on professional identity, a significant difference was observed in terms of
job type, maritalstatus, number of employees and recruitment method in the nurses’ group while no significant difference
was detected in the social workers’ group. In terms of the level of influence of the said factors, the nurses’ group was
36.9% while the social workers’ group was 25.7%. It appears that professional identity is high among nurses (married,
high pay) who work in a large hospital as full-timer and social workers who work in an incorporated institution as
full-timers. Therefore, the followings are necessary to enhance professional identity in the two groups; First, the
importance of altruistic mind should be emphasized by designating citizen service-related subjects suchas ethics,
philosophy, Volunteer Management as required courses. Second, continuing education should be expanded to strengthen
eligibility requirements(ex: academic degree, license)and provide high-quality services. Third, the pay system should be
improved, and nurses’ and social workers’ rights should be well protected to enhance professional identity by making
them work for a long time and accumulate knowhow and fulfill their duties in an active and efficient manner.
