The purpose of this study is to analyze on how to organize the content related to energy in2007-revised and 2009-revised elementary school curriculum. Especially, this study focused on how the
contents related to energy are connected systematically between subjects or between grades. The research
results are as follows. First, the subject dealing with the in-depth contents related to energy is the
2007-revised science curriculum. In the other subjects, the contents and foci differ slightly depending on
their academic perspectives. Second, in 2009-revised curriculum, elementary school students could not learn
about energy directly because the unit of energy in science shifted from elementary to secondary curriculum.
Students would learn about energy indirectly as a part of environmental education in the other subjects. In
this situation, students would be forced to take specifical actions to solve environmental problems without
understanding why they do the actions and why these are important. Third, the contents related energy are
placed disproportionately both between subjects and between grades. The reason of this disproportionate
curriculum system is that the curriculum developers between subjects organize each curriculum independently.
Fourth, it is possible to cause the confusion of science concepts in some subjects when they deal with the
contents related to energy. Based on the results of this study, educational implications are discussed in terms
of energy education and of the curriculum development.
