초록

건축을 공부하고 오랜 동안 설계실무를 하다보면 대단한 업적은 쌓지 않았어도 사물을 종합적으
로 보는 눈이 저절로 훈련이 된다. 저마다 다른 분야에 종사하며 다른 목적을 가진 고객들의 다양
한 요구에 부응하다보면 여러 가지의 건축을 겪기 때문이다. 대개 건축전공자들은 건설기술 인력
으로만 분류되는 경향이 많다. 필자의 경우도 마찬가지이기는 하지만 한편으로는 건축을 문화적
인 면에서 다루는사람으로도여겨지기도하고또한스스로가그렇기를바란다. 이는그동안다양
한 설계를 다루어서라고 하기보다는 무엇보다도 건축역사와 문화재학을 병행하여 연구함으로써
역 λ까 오래된 것들을 어떻게 발굴하고， 어떻게 수집 · 보관하며 어떻게 수리 · 보존하는7에 더욱
많은 관심을 가지고 있기 때문이다. 또한 물밀듯이 밀려오는 개발의 압력에도 불구하고 균형 있는
개발을 위한 보존의 당위성을 제시하는데 노력을 아끼지 않기 때문이다.

영어초록

Despite the vast research by archaeologist and art historians, little is known about the
architecture of archaeological site museum, specially when the site has "layers" from the
past. The "document Neupfarrplatz" is the underground museum, where visitors are able to
c1ime into the earth for a rare look at "layers" from the past. About 6 meters below the
Neupfarrplatz Square lie the remains of the Roman legionary fortress and Jewish quarter.
By examining this historically important archaeological excavations and site museum, I
would like to share the idea of underground museum with the readers.
Between 1995 and 1998, in the course of the most extensive excavations to date within
the Regensburg city center on this approximately 30,000㎡ site, archaeologists unearthed
the remains of cellars belonging to the houses and buildings of the Jewish quarter， as well
as sections of the Roman legionary fortress Castra Regina. The discovery of the parts of the
gothic synagogue built on Roman foundations was classified as a historic sensation. In
several places, researchers were able to investigate the Roman Layer. Also unearthed were
the treasure trove of 624 gold coins from the late 14th century and the gold ring of highranking
jewish official.Parts of the uncovered cellar within the old Jewish quarter were
restored by the city of Regensburg and transformed into an underground museum-the so
called "document Neupfarrplatz". The idea was to elaborate the history of the Neupfarrplatz
into a virtual reconstruction and to present this visualisation in the museum.
The old city of Regensburg is located on the southern bank of Danube, at the northemmost point of broad Danube river valley, where it is joined by the Regen River. It has preserved a notable amount of historic structures spanning some two millennia, and
including ancient Roman period as well as Romanesque and Gothic
buildings. The buildings include the medieval Patrician towers , a large number of
churches and monastic ensembles as well as the Old Bridge, which dates from the 12th
century.
The Old Town of Regensburg with Stadtarnhof(Altstadt Regensburg mit Stadtarnhof) has
inscribed on the World Heritage List by The world Heritage Committee 2006 as a group of
buildings, and as well as the historic center of an inhabited historic town.
