Schleiermacher, F. D. E. (1768-1834), the Dialectic Pedagogist, is regarded as the original founder of scientific pedagogy in the 19th century with Herbart. This study deals with his thesis, “An essay on sociality action (Versuch einer Theorie des geselligen Betragens,(1979)” which shows us his cultivation (Bildung) idea first. His ‘Sociality(Geselligkeit)’ concept in this thesis acts on his pedagogical idea as an extremely important concept, though in Korea I regret to say that it has not been introduced in whole. This study refers to the state of social intercourse in those days which is thought to form the historical and social background of “the Sociality Theory” of Schleiermacher. After referring to the influence in Herrnhut, the author tried to analyze “the Sociality Theory” and made clear “the Sociality Theory” as the pedagogical foundation.
