한국어 초록
This paper has been written to prove that 'wulun' the five moral disciplines of human relations of Confucianism has the universal values that can help solve the complicated problems of modern society. For this purpose the problems of American society has been looked into from the perspective of 'wulun' and compared with those of Korean society where Confucianism is currently the most prevailing among the East Northern Asian countries. When interpreted from a perspective of our own time, 'wulun' delivers the following codes; parents and children should love each other with intimacy; society leaders and members should respect each other with justice; husbands and wives should respect each other understanding the distinctive features of men and women; the old and the young should respect each other considering their own age; friends should be faithful to each other with responsibility.
As seen in the above codes all the relations in 'wulun' can be said to have unlimited liability in doing their obligations. That's because human relations based on mutual aid can be only completed through absolute love deeply connected with self-sacrifice. The absolute love of Confucianism begins with the utmost love between parents and children which lasts forever by believing in the spiritual existence after death and serving the ancestral sacrifices and is brought to perfection when that kind of love is extended to brothers and sisters, kins, and even neighbors.
