본 연구는 아동 권리 교육의 현주소를 살피기 위한 일환으로, 초등학교 국어 교과서에 수록된 동화들이 아동의 권리를 어떻게 표현하고 있는지를 살펴보는 데에 그 목적을 두고 있다. 연구대상은 2001년 5월 현재 초등 국어 교과서 24권에 수록된 동화 112편이며, 54개조의 아동권리협약 중 4개 원칙에 따라, 즉 생존권·보호권·발달권·참여권 등의 측면에서 동화의 내용을 분석하였다. 112편의 동화 중 창작동화는 82편, 전래동화가 30편이며, 국내 및 외국동화는 각각 102편과 10편이다.
연구결과에 따르면, 초등 국어 교과서에 수록된 동화는 생존·보호·발달·참여 등 권리의 4개 원칙 각각을 긍정적으로 반영하고 있다. 또한 창작동화가 전래동화보다 아동의 생존권을 좀더 적극적이고 긍정적으로 표현하고 있다.

영어 초록

This study is to analyze the children's rights expressed in the stories of elementary textbooks for Korean Language & Literature. UN Convention of Children's Rights are based upon the 4 principles, Rights of Survival, Rights of Protection, Rights of Development and Rights of Participation. 112 stories from 24 textbooks were chosen for this study. Of the 112 stories, 102 were domestic and 10 were foreign stories; which included the 82 creative stories and 30 folk tales.
All four rights of survival, protection, development, and participation are expressed positively in most stories of the elementary textbooks for Korean Language & Literature. However the four rights are expressed more positively and affirmatively in the creative stories than in the folk tales.
The results of this study are as follows. 1) 52 stories related positively to the articles 6, 24, 27 express the Rights of Survival. 28.85% of the stories imply negative meanings of children's rights. 2) The Rights of Protection in the stories are related to the articles 2 and 20. 40.26% of the stories reflect negatively against the children's rights. And the meanings of several articles about the protection for children are not expressed in the textbooks. 3) The Rights of Development of the articles 7 and 28 are expressed in most of the stories. Children's rights are expressed positively in 92.31% and negatively in 7.69% of the stories. 4) The rights of participation in the children's stories are focused upon the article 12. 90.79% of the stories imply positive viewpoints of children's participation, but the rest 9.21% imply negative viewpoints.
