본문내용
Twelfth Night by William Shakespeare deals with a lot of abnormal materials like betrayal, disguise and tangled triangle love. Everything in the town of Illyria is weird, out of place, and upside-down. Especially, the characters are the source of all the abnormality because of their sinful nature. For example, this play has a rich Countess Olivia as very selfish and impetuous, Marvolio, a steward to Olivia, as a piece of meat whom everyone tends to make fun of, and lastly Feste the clown as the wisest in the whole town.
First, Olivia is the character of selfishness and impetuousness. In the play she is mournful of her dead brother so she wears dark clothes with which she covers her whole face except her eyes. However, even though she covers her face, her beauty cannot seem to be covered. Intrigued by her beauty, Orsino, duke of Illyria, constantly tries to win her love but Olivia refuses him since she chooses not to marry for seven years on behalf of her brother. Her decision to not marry is somewhat selfish of her. She is extremely beautiful, but she doesn’t want to share it with anyone else.
