From the time children are born, they begin to acquire their first language and may start to learn a second language. Learning first language and second language are quite different in several ways. For example, it takes considerably more time for L2 learners to acquire a language than for L1 learners. In addition, L2 learners need more corrective feedback because they are not exposed to the second language’s environment compared to L1 learners. Then, how can one study and develop their second language skills? This question can be addressed by exploring three specific concepts: contrastive analysis, error analysis, and interlanguage.
