“The object of this massive tribute died as he had always lived, without wealth, without property, without official title or office. Mahatma Gandhi was not the commander of armies, nor the ruler of vast lands. He could not boast any scientific achievement or artistic gift. Yet men, governments, dignitaries from all over the world, have joined hands today to pay homage to the little brown man in the loin cloth, who led his country to freedom.” This quote is from the funeral scene in the movie. I could understand the importance of Gandhi from the quote. I think the quote can be a summary of this movie, Gandhi.
The director, Richard Attenborough made this massive and huge epic about the man who freed India. The movie, Gandhi, starts with the assassination of Gandhi in 1948. He was killed by a Muslim. His funeral is one of the biggest scenes in movie history. About 400,000 people participated in the funeral scene. Actually, when Attenborough shot this scene, the day was the 33rd anniversary of the actual Gandhi`s funeral. This movie was made before using computer graphic, so I in the funeral scene, probably the most people were ever in a scene in a movie. After the funeral scene, the story goes back to Gandhi early in his life.
