I though about the role of error and error correction. With a view of language
learning as a creative construction process comes the view that error is an
inevitable and positive part of that process. Attitudes have therefore moved on from
those of the behaviourists in the 1950s and 1960s who saw error as something to
be prevented as far as possible through intensive modeling and eradicated through
intensive drilling. Errors are now seen as reflections of a learner`s stage of
interlanguage developmet. There are conflicting views on the role of error
correction in the classroom. And the treatment of error requires consideration of
many issues. Whether or not to perform the role of diagnoser and corrector of
error is only the first. So teacher should have some insights.
