The divorce rate of South Korea is 42%. Considering the figure of 1997, there were only 3 in 1000 couples who ended up in divorce. Nowadays, almost half of couples get divorced. Undoubtedly, South Korea is becoming one of the countries with high divorce figure. The surging divorce rate of Korea is ranked in the third of OECD member countries. More than 135,000 couples get divorced every year, whereas there are 320,000 couples getting married every year. Who would deny the fact that this is a big problem? According to a recent report issued by Korean Family Research Institution, 48.9% of young married couples think that they can divorce even if they have babies. Surely, the greater the number of divorce, the more the abandoned children there will be. Korean Family research Institution said that 12,086 children got abandoned in 2002 due to divorce. For many children, the divorce of their parents would have a shocking effect in their lives. Moreover, an increasing rate of divorce would also affect the thoughts of ourselves, such that people find it harder to trust someone again. Even if people always vow that their love will last forever, looking at the reality of increasing divorces, no one can trust it. As a matter of fact, divorce does not remain only as their problem but also affects social life. In other words, society of one country is made of families and families are made of married couples and their children.
