본문내용The Maynard Wire Company was founded in 1931 to capitalize on the expanding market for high-quality color-coated wire for telephone applications. Today, a sizable portion of its business remains in specially coated wire. Maynard has one production facility for coated wire. The sales region extends over the entire nation.
Maynard is an intermediate producer, in that it purchases one-ton reels of uncoated copper wire and then applies one of the two coatings, standard inexpensive plastic, and higher quality teflon, according to customer requests. The two coatings come in a variety of colors, achieved by putting special dyes in the basic coating liquid. However, changing the color during a production run is such an easy process that it is reasonable to consider only two basic products, plastic-coated wire and teflon-coated wire.
Due to uncertainties in the demand for coated wire and the market price of copper, planning at Maynard is based on a four month planning period. Company officials are now in the process of planning production for the months of July, August, September, and October. The following forecasts of demand for coated wire have been based on the quoted sales prices of $836 and $842 per one-ton reels of plastic-coated and teflon-coated wire respectively.
