본문내용After reading "Oedipus" and "King Lear", the first question that came up to my mind was " What is fate?". Everybody has his/her own fate. In my opinion, everything we do or what occurs in our life is controlled by fate. In "Oedipus", Oedipus plays a role which shows humanity and the value of existence within the relationship with God. He does not ignore God, but respects him. When he finds out his fate, he shows the limitation of man. Though there was an argument with Teiresias, the prophet, this shows his strive to make effort to be reasonable about his fate. Also you can see the dilemma within himself but acting according to his will. For example, "He put out his eyes", shows that he himself is responsible for his actions, not God. In "King Lear", Lear was given a great gift of controlling a kingdom and keeping it peaceful. This would have been his fate, but he changes his fate, acting against God's will, becomes poor and homeless. His foolish action of giving his daughters the land, ignites his unlucky destiny. Jocasta in "Oedipus" shows difference with Lear and Oedipus. Lear and Oepdipus tried to change their fate, whereas she tried to adjust to the fate and avoid the outcome.
