The Enlightenment and Its Influence on the Development of Western Ideologies
The Enlightenment in the 18th century in Europe transformed the entire western society. This great social upheaval brought up constant protests and uprisings, and several crucial revolutions marked in history ; American Revolution (1775-1800) and French Revolution (1789-1815). John Locke, the English political philosopher who was one of the most brilliant thinkers, argued that governments were created to protect life, liberty, and property of the people, and that the people had a right to rebel when a government does not fulfill those needs. The intellectual movement, the Enlightenment, throughout the whole western world of this period influenced the expanding power of middle classes and commoners. The Enlightenment brought a completely different form of European society because common people were fascinated by the new ideas which called for equality and freedom, and that started to move violently in order to
