소개글
국민 공통 기본 교육과정의 ‘과학’은 3학년부터 10학년까지 모든 학생들이 학습하는 교과로서, 자연 형성과 사물을 이해하고 나아가 일상생활의 문제를 창의적이고 합리적으로 해결하는데 필요한 과학적 소양을 기르는 것을 목적으로 한다. 이러한 목적을 달성하기 위해 ‘과학’ 교과를 학습한 후 도달해야 할 목표로 과학의 기본 개념 이해, 과학적 탐구 능력과 태도 함양, 과학-기술-사회(STS)의 상호 관계 인식 등을 설정하였다. ‘과학’은 대학에서 과학을 전공하기 위한 준비의 성격을 띠기보다는, 국민으로서 갖추어야 할 과학적 소양을 기르는 데 그 목적을 둔다.‘과학’의 목표는 자연 현상과 사물에 대하여 흥미와 호기심을 가지고 탐구하여 과학의 기본 개념을 이해하고, 과학적 사고력과 창의적 문제 해결력을 길러 일상 생활의 문제를 창의적이고 과학적으로 해결하는 데 필요한 과학적 소양을 기르는데 있다.

본문내용
우리 주변에는 많은 종류의 식물과 동물이 주위의 환경에 알맞게 적응하면서 살아가고 있다. 인간도 환경에 적응해 살아가는 생명체 중 하나인데, 인간을 포함하나 생물체의 여러 가지 생명 현상을 이해하는데 있어서 가장 기본적인 과정이 생물체의 구조와 그 구조가 행하는 기능을 이해하는 것이다. 따라서 생물의 큰 두 부류(식물과 동물)의 구조와 기능을 학습하는 것은 생명 현상을 이해하는데 가장 우선되는 과제라고 할 수 있다. 주변에서 가장 가까이 대할 수 있는 식물에 대한 궁금증을 해결해주는 것은 식물에 대해 더욱 관심을 갖게 하여 생명에 대한 중요함을 일깨워준다. 이 단원에서는 식물을 구성하는 각 기관의 구조를 알아보고, 양분의 흡수 및 생성과 이동 등 식물의 기능에 대해 알아볼 것이다.이 단원은 초등학교 4학년의 ‘식물의 한 살이’, ‘식물의 세계’ 단원에서 식물의 일생과 여러 가지 식물의 종류에 대해 알아본 것과 초등학교 5학년의 ‘식물의 구조와 기능’ 단원에서 식물체의 여러 구조적 특성이 어떻게 서로 유기적 연관을 갖고 작용하는지 알아본 것과 연계되며, 이후에 고등학교 생물Ⅱ의 ‘물질대사-광합성’ 단원에서 광합성을 생물의 에너지 대사와 연관하여 알아보게 된다.
