1. Introduction
In ‘Dubliners’, the word ‘Paralysis’ is a keyword that describes Dubline and Dubliners. In ‘The sisters’, ‘Father Flynn’ is described as paralyzed person. In the same manner, Eveline in ‘Eveline’ is depicted as paralyzed person regarding why she cannot leave Dubline. James Joyce also describes Gabliel as paralyzed person. In addition to the individual characters, the city ‘Dubline’ is paralyzed city.
It is important that J. Joyce supposed the city Dubline is paralyzed city. At this point, transposition between the paralyzed people and the ‘un-paralyzed people’ occurs. Morally or mentally paralyzed person become normal person in the paralyzed city ‘Dubline’. Therefore, un-paralyzed person cannot but become socially abnormal person in paralyzed city ‘Dubline’. In this ‘paralyzed city’, normal person who is not mentally paralyzed seems to be abnormal like drunken or insane.
