The marriage of Padua people is reflection of the trade between father and suitor .

This marriage system designed to reflect the men`s desire. Under these circumstances, women

are always treated like product to meet the needs of man. Women`s opinion is of little

importance to man`s society. Women are merely weak existence to be obedient to their

parents or husband. Woman`s worth is determined by how well they are accepted the rules of

society made by man. There are two women in this play named Katherine and Bianca.

They cope with man’s authority in the different way. We can see forms of love and

marriage from play’s character behaviors and saying.


Petruchio is the most representative men of commercial marriage in Padua

He told Baptista straight out that only property is most important to himself. He wishes for

nothing more than a woman with an enormous dowry.
