1. SOME BASIC TERMINOLOGY
♡ predicate
the relation between the individuals being talked about and the real world- as well as each other.
♡ arguments
the entities who are participating in the relation.
♡ Argument Structure
The number of arguments that a predicate takes.
♡ Intransitive
A predicate that takes only one argument.
♡ Transitive
A predicate that takes two arguments.
♡ Ditransitive
A predicate that takes three arguments.

⇨ In determining how many arguments a predicate has, we only consider complements and specifiers. Adjuncts are never counted in the list of arguments. Only obligatory elements are considered arguments.
♡ Subcategorizational Restrictions
Semantic restrictions on arguments.
