(Dupuytren`s contracture, Morbus Dupuytren)

Dupuytren`s contracture is a fixed flexion contracture of the hand where the fingers bend towards the palm and cannot be fully extended (straightened). It is named after the famous surgeon Baron Guillaume Dupuytren, who described an operation to correct the affliction.

듀프트렌 구축증은 손가락이 손바닥을 향해 구부진채로 손이 오그라들어 고정된채 완전히 펼수 없게되는 병이다. 이 병은 이를 치료하는 절차를 기술한 유명한 외과의사 Guillaume Dupuytren의 이름을 땄다.

The ring finger and pinky finger are the fingers most commonly affected ; the middle finger may be affected in advanced cases, but the index finger is nearly always spared. The thumb is never involved.

환지와 소지가 주로 영향을 받으며, 중지는 상당히 진행되었을 경우 그러하다. 그러나 검지는 거의 영향을 받지 않고, 엄지는 전혀 받지 않는다.

Dupuytren`s contracture (A disease of the palmar fascia resulting in thickening and contraction of fibrous bands on the palmar surface.) progresses slowly and is usually painless. In patients with this condition, the tissues under the skin on the palm of the hand thicken and shorten so that the tendons connected to the fingers cannot move freely. The palmar fascia becomes hyperplastic and undergoes contracture. As a result, the affected fingers start to bend more and more and cannot be straightened.
