본문내용
It is an interesting saying that while western and eastern people may have
different external features, language, customs, and so forth, they both nevertheless
share common bonds as human beings. That is, the people who now own different races
and culture might start at one bough. This explains why some concepts and ideas of
mythologies, legends and fairy tales are so similar to each other. For example, Frazer’s
‘The Golden Bough’, the most authoritative study of mythologies, legends around the
world, explains that ‘Dragons’ are featured in many cultures, both in the East and in the
West. It is rather strange that both eastern and western culture possess dragons or
dragon-like creature, which actually never exist in real world, from long time ago when
visiting each other was totally impossible,
Several psychologists insists that the unconsciousness within human brain may
Possess universal memory that sometimes can be expressed as instinct, preference,
and so on. If so, there are some universal motifs that every other culture feel the same
way. Furthermore, we may guess human beings have a certain type of story they prefer
regardless of cultural differences when it comes to literature. According to Joseph
Campbell’s paper ‘Hero Myth Cycle’, it is a hero tales.
Through these journey of hero, we could find many similarities from legends, the
Bible, and even modern stories. In the Greek myth, Heracles was the son of Zeus and
Queen Alcmene of Tiryns. With this point, we may find similarity with Jesus Christ’s
birth.
