본문내용
Human beings are living in nature since they were created. Before technology developed, we were in awe of nature. Nature gave us many things that we essentially needed -like food, clothes, etc. But sometimes nature damaged us. For example, a typhoon or flood destroyed houses, farm, etc. After technology developed, we can predict disaster, and can use nature. But we still live in nature anyway. In the article, there are two different attitudes toward nature - Western people`s attitude and Native American`s attitude. One attitude is that nature must be dominated by human beings, and the other attitude is that human beings are a part of nature.
At first, the typical example of one attitude that nature must be dominated by human beings is Western people`s. They believe that nature must be changed until humans live in comfortable environment. So they constantly dominated and developed nature, and that facilitated human life. Not only the Western people, but also people who were influenced by Western culture made express high-ways and built many buildings by destroying mountains and damming a river. They learned the theory of Darwin at school and most of them believe that theory. The theory of Darwin is "the survival of the fittest". It means the strongest and fittest creature in nature can survive. They thought that nature is some sort of enemy, so they believe that they have to dominate creatures in nature for their living.
