Ⅰ. 서론1. 연구의 필요성 및 목적
- 보편적 설계 원리의 가장 큰 특징은 특정 장애인만의 접근성(accessibility)이나 사용성(usability)을 높이는 것이 목적이 아니라, 장애인을 포함한 모든 사용자들을 대상으로 한다는 것이다. 즉, 보편적 설계 원리에서 ‘보편적(universal)’의 개념은 장애인을 포함하여 가능한 한 다양한 사용자들이 특정 환경을 사용할 수 있도록 설계하는 것이다.
- 보편적 설계의 원리를 교육에 적용하는 것은 교수, 학습, 평가, 관리 방법 등의 여러 측면에서 장애를 포함한 다양한 수준과 특성을 가진 학생들을 처음부터 고려하여 융통성 있게 교육환경을 설계하는 것이다.
- Bowe와 Burgstahler는 원격교육에서 모든 학습자에게 학습 기회를 동등하게 제공하기 위해 보편적 설계 원리가 적용되어야 한다고 주장
- Roh는 장애 대학생을 위한 웹 기반 교수 설계를 위해 보편적 설계 원리가 필요하다고 제안
- 소효정도 보편적 설계 원리를 고려하여 장애 대학생이 자유롭게 접근할 수 있는 e-러닝을 개발해야 함을 언급

- 보편적 설계(Universal Design: UD)의 정의는 ‘장애를 가지고 있거나 그렇지 않은 모든 사람들에게 매력적이고 기능적인 건물이나 시설을 별도의 비용이 거의 없이 설계하는 방법’이다.(Mace)
