본문내용
1. Major verb classes (주요 동사 분류)
① 동사는 2개의 의미를 가진다.
• 문장차원에서는 문장구조를 이루는 요소 중 하나. (문장에서는 VP를 형성)
• 단어차원에서는 그냥 어휘. 즉, 단어.
② Verb phrase (동사구)
• 하나 또는 2개 이상의 동사로 구성되어 있음.
ex) linked, is making, can believe, might be leaving
• 문장에서 동사의 역할을 함.
ex) They linked hands, He is making a noise, I can believe you, She might be leaving soon.
③ 단어차원에서의 주요 범주
ⓐ Open class – full verb : full verb는 동사가 여러 개 있어도 맨 뒤에 오는 동사 하나만을 말함
ex) believe, follow, like, see
ⓑ Closed class – primary verb : full verb 앞에 나온 모든 동사를 primary verb라고 봄
ex) be, do, have
ⓒ Closed class – Modal auxiliary verbs : main verb 앞에 있는 동사
ex) can, could, may, might, shall, should, will. would, must
She might be leaving soon.
-aux -main
④ Main verb와 auxiliary 사이에 있는 동사들
ⓐ Modal idioms - 숙어처럼 돼서 하나의 뜻을 가지고 있는 거
ex) had better, would rather, have got to, be to
ⓑ Semi-auxiliaries - 준조동사
ex) be able to, be about to, be due to, have to, be going to
• Modal idioms와 Semi-auxiliaries의 차이점: 준조동사는 시제의 영향을 받는다.
⑤ Other verbs
ⓐ Discontinuous verbs (연결되지 않는 동사)
ex) Did they believe~?, They do not believe~, I can perhaps help~.
ⓑ Multi-word verbs
ex) turn on, look at, put up with, take advantage of
