한국어 초록

현대 사회의 뮤지엄에서 건축 모형의 전시는 빠질 수 없는 요소로 간주되고 있다. 그러나, 건축
모형이 단지 전시 기법의 보조 장치 중 하나로 취급되고 있는 현실도 간과할 수 없다. 이 논문은
뮤지엄의 건축 모형이 전시의 보조 도구가 아니라 능동적인 주체로써 관객과 주변 환경에 영향을
미칠 수 있는 능력을 보유하고 있다는 것을 논하고 있다.
뮤지엄에서 전시되는 건축 모형의 종류로는, 건축물의 연구에 사용되는 축척 모형, 개인적인 기
호품인 인형의 집, 그리고 디오라마와 같이 역사 박물관에서 주로 사용되는 전시 모형 등이 있다.
각 모형들은 원래의 기능에서 벗어나 박물관에서 전시될 때 능력을 발휘하는 경우가 있다.
우선, 관람객들에게 지식을 전달하는 능력으로는 전시 모형을 제외하고도 역사적인 건물을 재현
한 축척 모형이나 인형의 집 역시 과거의 유물로써의 지식 전달이라는 힘을 보여준다. 다음으로,
기억하는 보존하는 능력을 들 수 있는데 인형의 집은 어린 시절을 향한 개인의 기억을 기반으로
한 향수를 불러일으키며 역사적인 정확성을 띈 모형은 문화적인 기억까지도 보존하여 이는 집단의
문화적 향수로까지 발전될 수 있다. 그리고, 상징물로써의 능력을 발휘하는 건축 모형 역시 과거나
현재에 실존하는 건물에 내재된 잠재적인 상징성까지 관람객에게 전달하는 능력을 보유한다. 마지
막으로, 인류학적인 유물과 함께 전시되는 경우 유물이 고유의 기능을 상실하고 과학적 혹은 미학
적인 맥락으로만 뮤지엄에서 해석될 때 건축 모형이 유물의 고유 기능을 상기시키는 능력을 발휘
할 수 있다.
그러나, 뮤지엄의 건축 모형이 지식을 전달하는 교육적인 도구, 기억을 보존하는 저장고, 실제
건물을 대변하는 상징물, 그리고 유물의 고유 기능을 일깨워주는 상기물로써의 능력을 발휘하기
위해서는 관람객이나 수집가, 또는 다른 유물과의 관계가 있어야만 한다. 이러한 관계 요소들을
모두 갖춘 공간이 바로 뮤지엄이며, 따라서 건축 모형은 뮤지엄이라는 맥락에서 다른 주체들과 관
계를 맺을 때 능력이 생성된다고 할 수 있다.

영어 초록

The architectural models in contemporary museums are recognized as essential elements in
exhibitions. However, most of them are treated as one of many exhibition technique for the effective
exhibition. This article argues that the architectural models in museums are not merely assist device
of exhibition but have power to affect audience and museum environment as active subjects.
For the types of architectural models in museums, there are architectural scale models to study
architecture, doll houses as personal collections, and dioramas in historical and anthropological
museums. Each model can wield the power to transfer knowledge, remind the personal memory, and
preserve history when displayed in museums out of its original context.
First, architectural models can exert power to instill knowledge in that scale models and doll
houses of historic buildings are displayed in museums to transfer the historic information to the
audience. Second, the power to preserve memory can also be found in the type of doll houses that
remind the personal memory of childhood and eventually develop the collective nostalgia of the
society. In addition, the architectural models to represent powerful buildings can be regarded as
symbolic icons to have the potent power of the original buildings. Last, the power to recall the
original context of historical and anthropological objects can be found in the models of the type
of diorama when they are displayed together with such objects.
However, the close relationship among the audience, collectors, and other objects are crucial for
the architectural models in museums to exert power to instill knowledge, preserve memory and
history, signify, and remind the original context of objects displayed together. Therefore, architectural
models can have power when they relate to other subjects in the context of museums.
