Although NSDAP got defeated in 1945, Antisemitism in Germany did not disappear. Many German people says that they have reflected the past and try to make a new relationships with .Iews. But they have hidden their real mind on Antisemitism. And they regarded the crimes of Nazi period as the acts of the special groups of Nazist. On the concerned of the post war German nationalism the problems of Holocaust have been the hot issues in history textbooks. From 1945 to 1980' s, German history textbooks had written that the crime of Holocaust committed only by the Nazi extremists, so the ordinary German people never know the facts. But after 1990' s some scholars insisted on the charges of the ordinary people and asked to acknowledge it. On the result of this, the textbooks published in 1990' s wrote that many German people knew the Holocaust and some citizen worked actively in it.
For the comparative study on Antisemitism in history textbooks of Germany, I surveyed 4 books published in 1960' s, 1970' s, 1980' s and 1990' s. History Textbook (Leherbuch fuer Gescbicbie, 1966) published by Volk und Wissen Volkseigener Verlag in DDR was a good example of socialist views on war and Holocaust. In this book the main issue of the World War IT was not a problem of race or Holocaust but capitalism and imperialism. Men in his Times (Mensch en in ibrer Zeit, 1972) was published in Stuttgart. Apology and reflection were the main direction of this book. But in this book the authors wrote that modern antisemitism was begun first in the outside of the Germany and it was in general to hate the Jews. Today' History Weschichte heute, 1988) published in Hannover also explained the cruelty of the Holocaust very faithfully. But the authors accentuated the unfairness of the Versailles treaty and the extreme social disorder of that times. All these facts made the student to justify the Hitler's seizure of power and his politics. And the authors accentuated that the crimes of the 3rd Reich was committed by the special groups of Nazist, so the ordinary German people did not know it at all. We make History (Wir machen Geschichte, 1998) published by Diesterweg Verlag acknowledged that ordinary German people not only knew the Holocaust but also participated very actively in it.
